ECU can record a lot of stuff but I dont think it can do that. Could be the insurance company or lease company have a tracking device fitted of some sort.

Ahh right yeah that would make more sense. Not that I was worried about my speed being recorded or anything.

Yes, the chances are that some telemetry including seevral samples of the speed immediately prior to impact is recorded in the airbag ECU.
