Swapping summer & winter tyres on one set of wheels

From the discussion I've read on here the general approach seems to be to have 2 sets of wheels for the 2 sets of tyres, however the website of a national chain of rapid tyre fitters talks about removing & storing summer tyres to re-fit in the spring. This would seem a cheaper option than buying a second set of wheels, but is it a good idea?

You may get away with it for a few changes but there will come a point where you risk damaging the tyre bead. For the cost of a snotty set of wheels for winter, I went for the snotty wheels.

10 pounds plus per tyre to exchange them, twice a year? Of course the tyre shops would say that. 80 quid will buy a set of s/h wheels.

How long do you plan on keeping the car? If for 12 months then probably not worth buying a 2nd set of wheels - if you are keeping it for a few years it probably makes sense to make an investment in the 2nd set.

I don't think you understand. People have actually been cured of leprosy by rubbing winter tyres over their body.

Next seasons winter tyres are apparently going to cure AIDs.

I only have one set of wheels, luckily for me i used to be the assistant manager of a local tyre centre so i pay about £20 to get them swapped.

IMHO it's worth the outlay for the second set of wheels. My summer wheels have just been refurbed and have polished rims. The salt would have destroyed them. They are tucked up in the garage with a couple of coats of wax on them.

Kwik fit said they would refit my summers for nowt in march when I take them back down
