I see lots of people put their convertable in the garage with the roof down-ie all folded up.

Does this effect the roof in any way, like make it more creased etc?

Is it better to leave it with roof up, so its under tension?

I would leave it up personally. Possibly unlatched to remove tension, but not folded, esp if the plastic window folds.

I leave mine up - stops spiders etc getting in.

Always up- keep hood taught, stops creasing and you don't get a dusty interior. smile

On my mk1 MX5, A folded (down) hood will crease and mark, especially the back window, a closed (up) hood will have constant tension, however it's much much cheaper and easier to replace tension cables for new than it is the entire hood, so it's up for me.

If my B is in the garage for any length of time, then the hood would be up. It's not so much keeping the hood stretched, although does help the water shedding, it's more that it becomes harder to put up in a hurry if the hood frame is used to being down. It also means that the interior doesn't get dusty.

The other reason is that if the hood has got wet on its jaunt, raising it gives it a chance to dry off and prevents mildew.

Finally, stops the rear window creasing permanently.

(Just realised that it's had the hood stowed for about 3 weeks now because it's been out for the odd sunny day blast...must do what I say and not what I do)

another vote for up, for the sake of the placky window, and the mould which will grow in nice lines if you leave it folded as the damp gets trapped.

My E36 has a hardtop, so during the winter months the roof is down. I make sure the roof is completly dry before it is put down and also that is folded perfect, because any creases will stay and be a PITA.

Depends on which way it is when I park because I'm too lazy to change it. I guess since mine has no window it it, it matters less, though.

Had the Griff for 3 + years and for 90% of the time the rear section was folded down. Never done my hood no harm. Worth checking your insurance docs aswell about parking/storing with roof open down.

:Grammar pedant mode on:

So if it never done your hood no harm then it actually did your hood some harm?
