What to look for when buying an Evo 8 ??

Lots of service history (although this will be less of a factor when buying a newer one, you should still be looking hard at them), as even a newer car will have had items replaced and refreshed. With a car that produces such incredible power from a smallish engine, it needs careful maintainence. Make sure the fluid and oil levels are spot on, as this points to a careful owner. Do the usual checks with regard to accident damage and thoroughly inspect any aftermarket parts (something that would usually have me walking away).
When driving it, pay attention to the brakes and clutch; these parts suffer hard and Evolutions eat clutches. If it has a really low biting point it could be due a new one fairly soon, and if this is coupled with fairly baldy tyres it could be a car that the owner wants rid of before he's out of pocket paying for upkeep. Make sure the engine is running smoothly and the turbo works, and nothing is overheating.
These cars are either owned by enthusiasts or idiots; if you're speaking to an enthusiast they'll have stacks of paperwork and a good knowledge of the car. An idiot will likely fluff his way around the car before pointing out that "it's really fast" and has Ralliart mud flaps.

Yes, looking beyond the end of your nose is very important. Assess the seller, is he cagey or does he make you suspicious? Why is he getting rid of the car? What does he like about it, or dislike about it?
