Ride Quality / Comfort

Been having a chat with a guy in the office today about ride quality and comfort in a car for a long journey.

So hypothetically IF you were to pick a car (sub £8k to stop everyone going for the big one with the flying lady up front) to do a trip with 4 blokes in it and their luggage for say 4 days. What would you pick?

Fuel cost dose not matter.

But it must be classy and look “smart”

I'd probably try and find a previous model LWB S-class.

Larger Jags, Lexus and Citroen C6.

Forget anything with "sport" in the name, the cars are invariably not sporty in anyway and the term only really means hard suspension. Forget run-flats too.

Not sure if you can get one for 8k, but it's more comfortable than the rolls

XJs are surprisingly small in the back, even the LWB ones aren't massive.

Citroen C5 estate.

Not exactly premium but they're oh so comfy and have a huge luggage space. Available as a big turbo diesel automatic. Won't cost 8k either.

I'm still with the XJ crowd for this. The boot's big enough for 4 blokes luggage (probably not 4 women's!), provided they're not huge they'll fit in there and provides oodles of style.

If they are big blokes plus luggage, ride comfort in anthing conventionally sprung will take a bit of a beating. Thats 400KG added to the chassis, which is enough to engage the secondary ride charactistics of most cars.

I like the suggestion of the Big French car, but as nice as they are they are not really “Smart” in a gent’s carriage type of thinking… we would be looking to make it so best not to go for a Sub £8k Range Rover.

Yup either a jag XJ/XK or my current steed (ride comfort was the reason in purchasing it)
