First topic started, after a bit of advice.

Looking to get a new car, and have seen one I like and can afford. It's a 1998 Peugeot 306 xs. Only thing is, it's done 120k miles. Is it worth having a look at? Or should I just walk away? It's pretty cheap, and I liked it, but just thought I would get the opinions of people with some experience.

Ta!

I gave my old Peugeot 306 TD to my mate at around 98k and it's now done over 160k and still going strong. Can't comment on the petrol versions though, perhaps try asking this question on pug306.net or similar?

But certainly make sure it's been serviced properly and the cambelt has been changed when it should. Oh and check the electrics. The air-con will definitely not work.

It depends on how cheap it is in comparison to other lower mileage examples - Is it a good price for 120K miles? Double check the cambelt and water pump has been done recently. Not sure on the XS, but the cambelt needs changing every ~35K on the GTi-6 ...

Well, the milage is about average for its age (less than 10k a year) IF it's genuine.

A very tidy handling car but bear in mind it's a 13 year old french car so electrics may be a bit fragile. Engine and gearboxes are pretty reliable as long as it's been cared for with regular servicing, oil change, cambelt, etc.

If it's cheap enough then it should make a fun, practical runabout.

Good luck!

You are mad to think 120k miles is mad.

If there's plenty of up to date service history and it runs well - why not?

eh? By the thread title I thought this was going to about something either a little extreme or highly eccentric.

But a mass produced shopping trolley with average and expected mileage on?? confused

I have to agree.

Mass produced car with average miles on it. I fail to see where the 'madness' part is unless you are about to pay £10,000 for it or something.
