As the title says, I was wondering if it had been done before. I currently have a red top that I kept from a garage clearance that I did. Also looking at how cheap E36 are on the bay. I know it's leftfield but I do like the engine had a couple of cav gsis way back when and an astra gte as well so I'm quite familiar with it. I know it would have to be mounted longitudinally and would need a manta sump from a 1.8, but I can't find too much info out there. What would your thoughts be on this ,too much effort not enough return? An E36 and a Mk3 Cav aren't too far apart in terms of weight.
Sounds like a load of aggro for very little gain to me. Plenty of modifying, making things fit, splicing of looms etc, why not just fit a decent 3.0 BMW engine, at least it'll be a pretty straightforward swap. You'd need to really love the old Vauxhall engine to want to use it, but I'm sure its been done before.
