Is it a facelift car? If so, a batch of them had a problem and a dealer fix was issued at the time; yours may not have been done.
I think there is a component that needs piecing into the loom by the steering wheel (a supressor?).

I used to work at a dealership, I believe MG Rovers explanation was 'a transiant spike from the wiper motor'(Don't ask me what that means though!

) triggering the boot lock. As Platinum says, there was a supressor that needed fitting. I still work at a parts wholesaler, I'll see if I can track down a copy of the service action when I get to work on Monday...attym3 said:
I'm in stitches here.I've dug out the old hard copy of the paperwork for this. It was issued as a technical tip (TT0121 Issue 2). I've googled it and there is a link on one of the MG Rover forums (I think you need to be registered to use it though):-

If thats no good I do have the paperwork. I have no way of scanning it onto the computer, but would be happy to fax it(I know, I'm just old school!). Parts availabilty appears to be good as well!
Hope this helps

This is quite odd, the boot release can only be actioned via the key fob so there isn't actually a way to do it from a button inside the car. And, once opened there is no catch, the boot basically opens with a slight pull. So, if you're hitting a nice 80 leptops on the M'way and you put your wipers on there is a reasonable chance your boot could open wide?
I think that would look quiet funny tbh. Not so, if your boot is full of crap and it falls out onto the M'way though :/

Funny, I've had two K-series powered rovers both of which were spanked to an inch past their lives, and I NEVER EVER had ANY issues with the Head Gasket! I have had HGF on a Vauxhall, a BMW and ford though!!
It's the done thing on PH, someone mentions "MG" or "Rover" and the whole world shouts HEADGASKET in a chorus.I bought a ZR with a blown one, fixed it properly. Then gave it hell over 3years/70k miles. Never missed a beat
