I do a 100 mile round trip to work and back. I am working on a job nearer home but having the prospect of another years commuting sends me looking for the easiest way to do it. Which is cruise, auto and of course not having to fill up more than once a week.

Any good ideas?

The mpg would be ideally based on real world figures but I can happily sit at normal speed limits or less of that helps

Budget?

I'm gonna suggest some sort of VAG 1.9 TDI.

One of these with the 2.0d or 2.2d in. Better ride than anything BMW or Audi, yet still quite a good steer. And a rather nice place to sit too.

Or it's bigger brother with a 2.7 V6 diesel.

The world is your oyster at that price... you can get a decent example of the smaller diesel engines of just about all the compact execs and larger family cars.
