Having seen a few threads now about people asking how does such and such feel to drive and a lot of responses saying the "power delivery is very linear", "doesn't actually feel that fast until you start reaching silly speeds" etc.

What cars are there that actually make you think bloady hell this is fast when the loud pedal gets hit into the floor. Like the way a Scooby or an Evo throws you in the back of the seat and make you scream when the turbo kicks in.

My mates 1.2 Bike engined kit car, 0-60 in around 3.5s, that feels very fast!

Anything with an old school turbo delivery and Turbo Diesels can feel a bit like this, but only for a few seconds until it runs out of puff.

Personally I reckon it's all about perspective and location.

My slowest car actually has a great sense of speed and feels far faster than it actually is. Even more so on quiet roads when you don't have other cars to gauge it against.

I found even the GT3RS can feel a bit flat in the acceleration stakes, but then that is NASP linear power delivery for you.

Anything with low compression, lots of boost and a high boost threshold will 'feel' rapid even if it isn't.

An S2000 gives a great feeling of acceleration when Vtec comes in.
Much more pronounced on the older models than the newer ones though.

My old Scooby. Ludicrously fast.

The car needs to feel raw, with very few creature comforts as that often produces the sensation of speed. My turbo'd MX5 feels pretty rediculous under WOT, especially with the roof down.

But then again the Bedford Rascal van my dad once had felt pretty fast, primarily as placing your head just above the front bumper heightens the senses somewhat.

Pretty much anything where you sit low will give you a good feeling of accelaration and speed.

IMO, there are few things apart from proper exotica that feel anything like as fast as a well sorted Jap turbo-nutter car. My old Scooby was only running around 350bhp, which coupled with coil-overs made it fast and pretty raw in terms of ride.

Think about the Evo FQ360... 0-60 in 3.something seconds. That's crazy.

Just about to say this. Also a loud exhaust and lack of sound deadening helps.

The sense of speed/acceleration is key here

My old smart car FELT fast but was obviously slow ( SW Exclusive tuned to 84hp and had TC removed)

This was over 10 years ago though and one of my first cars so I don't know if it would still feel fast if I tried it today. Just remember it being really fun as you could rag it everywhere.

This describes my MGB. It's not very quick but it feels it... I gave it the beans as a road went to NSL and it felt quick until a Jag XFR went past me like I was going backwards. I imagine that the Jag felt quite quick though...

I found an Evo 5 group N rally car was pretty good. Having no interior and a loud exhaust definitely helped things to become that bit more mind bending, and it being the first really quick car I drove.

The M5 E6x once it's over 90mph, the way it can continue up to 160+ in such a short time is nuts. In other cars like Scoobies once you get to 110 it seems to take ages to add 10mph.

My old MX5 import on the original Bilstein suspension. The shocks were absolutely knackered. This meant that at any speed the car bounced violently along the road, making 30mph seem incredibly dangerous. In fairness, it probably was, until I got rid of those shocks!

I've never really owned a 'properly' fast car. My Celica 190 may have given the impression that it was fast and it certainly felt amazing on the test drive, but you soon got acustomed / bored of the power delivery.

This is what I mean, that car feels fast once you get up to stupid speeds. I'm wondering what there is that the second you hit the gas from standstill feels like it's doing a million mile an hour.

My VX220 Turbo, following a remap to clear a flat spot delivery and corral a few more horses; when using full throttle gives a very satisfying thump.

Coupled with bum inches off the floor driving position, sensation of road noise, rattles and generally being much smaller than everything else around, gives a very heart warming sensation of speed.
