HPI marker against a private reg, can you get rid?

So whenever I've seen this on adverts, I've always just assumed it was a fudge by the seller "oh the cat c was against a private reg the car had on", yeah right mate, pull the other one!
But anyway, it seems my reg has one on it! Pretty easy to solve seeing as the cat c write off was over 10 years ago and my car is only 2 years old, but I don't want to be putting a mark against any new car and if I put it on another classic it might cause confusion.
Is there anything I can do to get rid of it?

Really?That's BS - surely it corresponds to a CAR - Since a number plate isn't technically identification of a vehicle, it would be tied to a VIN number surely.
Put it in WRITING to them.
Say you want the VIC Marker removed FROM THE PLATE and if not in writing a formal response as to why not.

What does the report actually say?Don't get me wrong, I'm aware anyone looking at the car can see it's a 2012 MINI but the mark remains & it's obviously on a car with a different chassis number.

A mate of mines Mitsubishi Shogun got stolen with his private plate on, he replaced it with an Alfa along with the private plate, the security warning of stolen car with plate now shows on the HPI report for the Alfa.

The strange thing is, when I bought the car with the reg on I did a hip check and nothing showed up

And it only takes a few seconds of reading an HPI report to realise it's nothing to do with the current car.
Exactly the same with private plates that have been put on cars with finance on them.

A fair point, but I'm quite happy to ignore the mouth-breathers in favour of waiting for somebody semi-sentient, and get a far lower chance of the increasingly prevalent "post-purchase discount" attempts and other shenanigans.10 years later...
My car got written off as a Cat N in 2022 and I bought it back. It carried my private plate. Now in 2025, I've removed the marker against my private plate. The car is back on its original plate and with it, the marker is on the car. My private plate is now "clean".
As per the instructions at the time of the write-off, I contacted the insurer who wrote off the car and who had originally attached the marker. Notably, this is not the Co I'm currently insured with. With security questions such as name, address (at the time), reg and claim reference, they were happy to remove the marker from my private plate.
