Chip Tuning - Once removed can they be detected?

I've had numerous cars with mods, remaps, tuning boxes, stock, etc... so I don't need the advice to tell me the pro's cons about a chip I know what they are, however...
I would be grateful to know from perhaps a mechanic that works in a main dealer if a tuning box from a well-known company (Racechip etc...) is removed can the changes it made to the car prior be checked on the diagnostic tool.
Let's say a company car had a racechip for a year it gets un-plugged goes in for a service or maintenance if they searched could they tell?

Certainly on modern VAG kit with tuning boxes, if they're removed, there is a finite amount of recording that logs various engine parameters, and obviously your tuning box changes these.
We're talking forensic level investigation to find it though. Unless there's a really good reason to look at this level, I can't see anyone doing so. It wouldn't surprise me if your local dealer wouldn't even have the expertise to tell the difference.
The solution is to run without it until all the logs are overwritten, but I couldn't say how long this is. Can't imagine it being that long.

I suspect all modern turbo engines that have been mapped/played with will have a function in the ecu to log the raised boost pressure, raised internal temperatures, map sensor readings and so on. It wouldn't take a genius to know a Tsi with a factory boost of 0.4bar with a stored reading of 1bar has been played with.

Who are you trying to conceal it from?
- Car owner/leasing co - buy the car yourself then you can do what you want with it.
- Insurance company - find an insurer who doesn't mind.
- Car maker - You mod it then you take the risk of failures.

Pretty sure I've read all VAG major component claims have the ecu contents sent back to the factory for analysis before warranty claims are settled.
Again from what I've read, tuning boxes do leave a detectable signature and the factory will specifically look for signs of this in the event of a major claim.
I've got a Revo map on my T6, I know the risks and the Revo agent made it clear that my warranty was at risk should something go pop at a later date.

If its a company car you would increase driving experience and take it off on return... or as someone else mentioned "I wonder what happens to someone who has a warranty claim who bought a year old car that had been mapped then returned to standard. its general question to find an answer, this thread isn't for advice on what decisions people should or shouldn't make.
