Soft Limiter

Really a quick question and like most people I am more than likely putting this in the wrong section BUT for anyone who can help?

Soft limiters on new cars can they be removed?

Come June I’m considering buying a 2018 R8 V10+ or going the extra mile and buying the facelift version but I hate how new cars come with soft limiters.

I have heard that if you switch ESP off this disables the soft limiter?

Why would you want to remove it? Unless you're one of those types of helmets who revs the balls off a car at the lights in neutral....

Maybe I do...Maybe I want to hear that V10 sing it's best song. That really wasn't the question though was it, the question was can you remove it not your opinion on whether it's cool or not to do.

I can see online forums still haven't changed one little bit.

I think you can yes because it is just ECU software but if it were my money and I wanted the V10 sound I would be looking for a pre GPF model.

It will still make a nice noise, whilst you are moving.

There was a guy round here with a V10 R8 with the registration "LOUUUD", not sure how it had been arranged but that is what it was meant to say, and it was pretty loud but its easy to look a bit of a penis making it bounce off the limiter, not sure why it was necessary in the B and Q car park either, its not like most folk wont notice an R8.

Soft Limiters are a bit annoying but I don't think in reality it bother me one iota as I dont think I have ever really sat and revved my car in neutral past 3000. Plus, dont want to look like an excitable wedding guest who has got his hands on an R8 for the first time, just before it gets wrapped round some street furniture

You think a v10 sounds at its best stuttering on and off? I would guess it's possible through a re-map - probably best to call a few tuners and ask them

I believe it can be mapped to remove a soft limiter. I saw a Car WOW video not long ago that had a RS6 vs a RS6 tuned by Awesome GTi and that had had the soft limiter removed at part of a remap.

Revving the arse off a stationary car makes you look like a complete tt.
However, since I've yet to find a single person on the internet who "cares what anyone else thinks" about anything, I'm sure this won't bother the OP at all.

Hey Jacob7070,

I was wondering how your experience was when you had the soft limiter removed?
Did you lose out on any warranties on the car?
Is the resale price affected due to the possibility of high revs damaging the engine?
