What a load of bks...

Never had any issues with any of my cars, ever, using fuel from Sainsburys and the likes...

I do choose to do 1 in 4 tanks of VPower petrol in my cars; for the cleaning additives. Could be placebo; but it seems to work for me

I use Sainsburys Super-Unleaded in my E399 touring, just because it'll have been used to the higher RON in Japan anyway; and then 1 in 3 or 4 tanks of VPower

Half the time, folk that say they never use supermarket fuel don't know what they're talking about; they're just going off the bullst hearsay they've heard from whomever... rolleyes

It all comes from the same 7 UK refineries, from the same tanks as delivered to Shell, BP or any other station & supermarket. It's just additives added at the point of delivery. Fuel being sent by sub-contracted tanker to a Shell garage could be diverted to a Morrisons instead that has a shortage. So you'll have Shell fuel at your Morrisons instead, and sometimes Morrison's fuel at Shell. Only Optimax types aren't swappable.

Pretty much all of that is wrong I believe.

You will not get fuel at Shell that hasn't got Shell additives and you won't get fuel with Shell additives at Morrisons.

You're also ignoring imports of refined products.

Oh, that's like bad.

My granddad has a electric Hundai and he said he was a bit worryed when charging at home that he might be getting the wrong sort of electric cos he's gone for a special green energy supplyer (as in not as powerful for charging the battery's). I said it would be okay but this thread makes me worry a bit, so I've phoned him (he's not on FB lol, old see) and told him about that, so he's going to ring Octopuss and see if he can change. They ought to publicise this a bit more with all the people getting electric cars.

Fuel for all brands comes out of the same terminal. Just the additives change depending on brand and season.

Mmmm So when I change my gas to a green energy supplier, maybe I should be careful then?

I haven't used Shell, BP or any other for ages so whatever their overpriced ripoff stuff is called these days. Vpower whatever. I only use supermarket fuel.

Haha

I've used Asda fuel for years. Fuel is fuel.

If I had a Ferrari I'd use V-Power or something but for a run-of-the-mill daily, it makes no difference.

I've driven a million miles in various cars, a high proportion being from supermarket fuel. Never had a single issue.

Anyone avoiding them because of the odd issue is a bit deluded.

Greenenergy supplies fuel for Tesco, Esso and Inver stations.
Shell supplies fuel for Morrisons.
BP supplies fuel for Sainsbury's.
Essar Oil UK supplies fuel for Asda as well as it's own Essar stations.

So it was contaminated fuel that was delivered not the so called low quality supermarket fuel, this could have happened at any fuel station whether a supermarket one or a Shell, Esso etc.

The Daily Mail said: A contractor completing maintenance work on our tanks accidently transferred some contaminated product into a live tank.

So, in summary: nothing to do with supermarket fuel, and Faith Ridler of the Daily Mail Online cannot spell "accidentally".

I shall move on with my life and will be filling up Mrs D.R.'s car at Sainsbury's tonight.

Me neither. Probably daft but it messed up my 3 Series at the time so was put off supermarket fuel for good. I don't spend enough on fuel these days to worry about a few pence extra.

I have been using supermarket fuel since they started selling it, never had a problem. After all Tesco's don't make petrol they just buy it from someone who does. Yes some companies may have different magic potions to justify their price but they all meet the same spec.
