Changes to the congestion charge!
Discussion
The temporary changes to become permanent!
As expected really…
Increased amount of £15 to remain.
Weekday hours to revert back to pre-pandemic hours.
However crucially - permanent charges for weekends and bank holidays between 12-6PM.

The weekend and bank holiday needs to remain free from the congestion charge! Fill it in and oppose. It was always going to happen. You can bet your bottom dollar they don’t want to publicise this consultation and just push the changes through. You know, cars spread Covid etc.

And lets not forget that from October the zone gets bigger for ULEZ and I think all the electric vehicles come into conj charge scope tooAs expected really…

Gosh! Whoever would have thought that would happen?

This. We all knew it.... "Because of Covid, as a temporary measure,...."Gosh! Whoever would have thought that would happen?

Yes, of course.

This is the thin end of the wedge.
Approximately 50% of the time I need to visit London, I'll drive, depending on where exactly I'm going. It's usually for work, so I'm not personally paying.
But with the price of train tickets in the UK, believe it or not it's usually still cheaper to drive into Westminster (CC zone) and park at a premium priced Q park, than it is for me to get on a train from Gloucestershire. Train is more convenient though!
The few times I might drive to london for personal reasons, I don't mind paying the congestion charge if I *really* need to drive into the small controlled area. Usually though I'll park at the Westfield for £8 a day, and take the tube in. Which I think is the whole point. That's what people SHOULD be doing wherever possible. Nobody should be driving into the very centre of London except for work/trade (e.g. builders or if you're delivering something, where that cost just becomes a cost of doing business, which you can pass on) or disabled (exemptions exist).
For the few occasions where one might legitimately need to use a car to do a big shop or move a wardrobe or whatever, you can pay. And don't residents in the area get a discount anyway?
Classics are exempt from ULEZ but not Congestion Charge, which I think is almost sensible given they could have had no concessions at all.

Sounds sensible, embed in London then roll out to all large towns in a couple of years time, Bristol, Cardiff, Gloucester, Cheltenham. Then just need road pricing for all roads outside of big towns too.But with the price of train tickets in the UK, believe it or not it's usually still cheaper to drive into Westminster (CC zone) and park at a premium priced Q park, than it is for me to get on a train from Gloucestershire. that shouldn't be the case and needs addressing. But even me traveling on my own (the situation is much worse if taking the family!) it's cheaper to drive 90 miles in a petrol car and park/CC than a train. It's just not right. Whenever I go to Stuttgart, I always take the train, because it's not just more convenient but also *cheaper*. So it becomes the default choice.

100% agreed. I'd much rather take the train, for convenience as well as for congestion and pollution/environmental benefits.

"Each rail passenger journey taken in the UK since lockdown has cost the taxpayer about £100 in subsidies, with billions of pounds of government money spent on running near-empty services."

Except they're not.
The hours are being reduced.
The mayor does not get to set the terms on his own either. Remember that government 'bailout' of TFL includes trying the make the congestion charge as politically toxic as possible for a Labour mayor... For the first 2020 bailout the government wanted the CC zone extended out to the north/south circular for example.
SADiq and TfL are well and truly on the money grab…
