Hi all,

Just a quick post to look out for my 8c red Giulietta 1.4tb multiair 2013 that was stolen from the Morrisons car park in Bilston Wolverhampton on Tuesday the 21st of December 2021 during the hours of 1pm and 5pm.

No windows were smashed and the only thing that I found in the empty parking space was the plastic panel from under the steering wheel where the must have connected something to the obd connection in assuming to start the car?

That car was my pride and joy and SCUMBAGS that don't want to work for things choose the easy way and that's crime!!!

I believe my Giulietta is quite a unique spec so I'll leave a pic and a YouTube link of the car and any info will be much appreciated.

If anyone sees one for sale, mine has a few extra options:

-Aluminium oil filler cap
-Aluminium petrol filler cap
-Italian badge on side skirts
-gun metal teledial alloys

Thanks all

I hope you get it back Mate.
A guy got his Porsche back a while ago by sharing it on PH.
Good Luck.

Thanks for your kind words.

Yeah I would like it back but would insist of the insurance to thoroughly thoroughly inspect the car. Probably wouldbt be able to diagnose the gearbox fully though I'm assuming?

Just got home from work and there was a letter waiting for me. Opened it to read and hey presto, my car was recovered on the 29th of December and has been sitting at an impound!!!

Stupid thing is I called West Midlands police day before yesterday for an update and they said they haven't got any update for me!!!!!!!

I'll be going to check the car tomorrow to see what state it's in and will feed back then.

Would be interesting to know where it's been in the interim and how they recovered it. I'd have expected it to be either broken for parts or out of the country within 24 hours of being stolen!

Maybe they nicked it and immediately parked it somewhere for a week to see if it had a tracker fitted?

Any tips on what I can get the insurance to do as in ensure the engine was in the same condition as when I had it?

Hi all,

Just abit if advise please. So my Giulietta was recovered by the police and has just been through the estimation for repair at the insurance approved repairers. It's over the repair threshold by about 5% as per the engineer. Because my car was 8c red the cost of respraying the front and rear bumper, refurbing 2 alloys and repairing a dent in the driver's door they are probably gonna write it off! And that's before they have even analysed the engine.

Any tips I can use to discuss with the insurance company when u call them in a couple if hours time?

If they want to write it off you'll struggle to talk them down, unless they've massively underestimated the value of your car.

I'd be tempted to buy it back though.

Bugger. Did they take it to use for some kind of robbery?

I suspect that if you get it back, you just won't be happy with it knowing that it's been abused by some scrote.

Not used in a crime as far as I know, fake plates were found on the back seat though. It was abandoned less than a mile from where it was stolen from.

It depends on your policy wording but worth looking round at the current prices in the inflated market as you would want to be in a position to replace like for like and used cars are still stupid prices.

I assume any mods were declared.

That sucks, that's a really lovely looking car. Sorry this is not particularly helpful.

What’s the difference between getting a stolen car back and buying a second hand car?

With the latter there's a chance that it hasn't been abused.

With the above stolen car: "front and rear bumper, refurbing 2 alloys and repairing a dent in the driver's door"
And that's without looking at the mechanicals. It's probably been redlined from cold.

If it was my shed, I wouldn't care (although valued at £1k, they'd definitely write it off) but the car in question is the OPer's pride and joy.

Some good points. If you would still prefer to have it back then you need some sort of indication of the state of the mechanics.

Makes sense, although I’d be the other way around.

The OP spec looks lovely and probably pretty hard to replace so I’d look to have the car back compared to a shed which can just be replaced.

I don’t think redline from cold would really damage anything either. But get the point they could have been intentionally wrecking it a car park or wherever

Damage is easy to assess, it wasn't there before.
Mechanical damage is highly unlikely unless the engine is tapping and smoking. Modern engines are highly resilient.
So there is very little way of proving any subsequent mechanical issue wouldn't have happened anyway and it's a risk you take, even if it wasn't a write-off.
Cars get stolen just to avoid walking home so it can't be assumed it's been used as a grand prix car.

I'm under the assumption that the insurance are undervaluing my car. It was in near perfect condition, full history, cam belt etc. It will be interesting to see how much they have valued it at when I speak to them later.

They should have a invoice sheet which shows how much the repair will cost against what they’ve listed as the valuation.

It is amazing how quickly it all adds up when they need to source new oem parts. Someone pulled out from a junction and wrecked one of my motorbikes. I bought it for £3500 but to put it back to that condition would have cost £7800 in parts and labour.
