How many examples are there of manufacturers reusing names of models for cars which have nothing to do with the car they are named after? The few in my mind are:

Ford Puma - sporty Fiesta based coupé to swollen 'SUV' Fiesta

MG ZS - boy racer's Rover 45 into tight pensioner's runabout

And the BMW 6 series - sleek coupé into lardy, tall, hatchback 5 series which no-one ever bought...

I guess the Ford Cougar/Kuga also counts but can you think of any more?

I appreciate that the 6 series and the 5 series GT are different cars, but they don't share the same name. confused

Ford Mustang

Beat me by 5 minutes! What a waste/ruination of an iconic name!

Volkswagen Bora and Lamborghini Bora, as both manufacturers traditionally name their cars after winds.

One variation of the Vauxhall Frontera was sold in Japan as the Honda Jazz in the 90s.

They renamed the 5 series GT to the 6 series once the 6 series became the 8 series!

Pretty sure they didn’t, on the BMW website it jumps from 5 to 7. Pretty sure the GT got discontinued not rebranded.

Triumph motorcycles, Meridian vs Hinckley models. Since being relaunched in 1991 I'm pretty certain every model name has been reused at some point.

1970 Daytona...

2006 Daytona

Is this going to turn into a “shock horror modern car doesn’t look like a car from 50 years ago” thread

And Maserati often used winds, eg Bora, Khamsin, Mistral etc.
