The Best/Worst MPG thread
Discussion
I can sometimes be a bit of hypermiling nerd, makes boring journeys a tiny bit more interesting. But also love to see a hilariously bad figure. A friends Audi S4 4.2 getting 6.2mpg going up an Alp rings a bell.
I'll start then:
Today, 74 miles, Bristol to Reading in my 2014 manual M135i. Cruise set for 65mph, Eco-Pro mode. Best ever.

Worst ever:

What's yours then?

Best ever, trip along the m27 during covid (lockdown times in that amazing warm spring weather). Another key reason for it being so high, proximity to motorway junctions both ends and average 50mph speed camera the whole way!
Loving the 116d at the moment, at a track day thruxron tomrw in my clio 197, that's 14mpg on track...
My old man used to have an early H2 Hummer. Few years back I pinched it for a trip to Le Mans with the lads, and I can confirm that four-up and full up and with a straight through exhaust (but with cats) if you nail the throttle the display will happily show 1 MPG time and time again

Modified Fiesta ST, can see 50 mpg fairly easily, can also drop it into the late teens, usually 45 on a decent run, early thirties knocking about.
Suppose even modified its still only 1200 kilos and nothing else has changed in terms of gearing, aerodynamics etc, just the capability to use more fuel if you choose.
My M135i used to report late teens early twenties in similar use, they can be economical but easy to get addicted to that shove.

Personal worst is about 17 around town in a slightly knackered 2.5 V6 Vectra Estate.
Best is 59.8 mpg cruising on the motorway (60-65 mph) with a 1.2 3 cylinder petrol 2008 GTLine Pug and I reckon with a bit more distance I could have gone beyond 60 (can't remember if it was pre E10, might have been)

I think the snapshots can be a bit deceiving, as they could be an engine up to temperature, over a very small distance.
My 66 plate 335D, now gone, did 552 miles on a tank once @ 47mpg over 2 long journeys, which I was quite impressed with. That was with the speed limiter set to 80mph.
I've the misfortune of having to drive a 1.6D Citroen C3 from Gatwick to Brum on Friday. I haven't a clue what it's most efficient speed would be. But based on the fact that it does 55mpg on a cold start, 12 mile commute across Birmingham, I wouldn't be surprised to see a snapshot close to three figures. It's long term average is 54mpg, it definitely doesn't prefer it's speed limiter set to 80

Every so often I have to babysit in Manchester, nearly 200 miles away. My usual transport is an A4 1.8T Quattro estate. It's fine but most recently cost £110 for the round trip of there and back and a bit of running around in Manchester. But when I received the most recent cry for help the Audi was in with the diagnosis man for a week trying to find an intermittent battery drain. So I took my late life crisis, an SLK32. Normally I get about 17mpg so I wasn't looking forward to Manchester and back. By tippy toeing everywhere I managed 33mpg on the there and back and 16 around the city. 27mpg overall. £145 on fuel.
Elderly man in elderly AMG reported doing 55mph on M40, M42 and M6 for miles.

While stationed at Lulworth, in the 70s, I used to drive around in a Centurion ARV (Armoured Recovery Vehicle).
We reckoned that while towing a Chieftain tank off the ranges we were getting aroun 3 to 4 gpm..... (that's right 3 to 4 gallons per mile!!!)
Used to pull up and fill the tank to 100 gallons - and had two other tanks as well!!
Makes the 20mpg in the Tiv look very good!!

I was going to tell the tale of a 200 mile drive in a Jensen FF at just under 9 to the gallon but that seems positively frugal now!!We reckoned that while towing a Chieftain tank off the ranges we were getting aroun 3 to 4 gpm..... (that's right 3 to 4 gallons per mile!!!)
