My car was hit while parked in my work car park on Friday.

I contacted our security team who said they have checked CCTV cameras and have identified the car that hit me and are currently looking into the owner of the vehicle (could be staff or public).

Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed in this situation? Should I tell the police/insurance company now or wait to see if I can contact the driver?

I haven’t seen the footage but the security team said it “should be enough” so might not be conclusive.

How damaged is your car?

If it’s minor damage and you’re not looking to claim the insurance, you call always call you’re insurance company to make them aware what’s happened and maybe provide them the CCTV footage also. Incase the 3rd party tires anything!

There is a significant scrape on the driver side door and a large dent behind the handle which is also badly scratched.

If it’s someone you work with go and tell them you know it’s them and have the cctv see how they want to go about repairing it.

If customer just report to your insurance and the police.

I wouldn't.

Then you pay out yourself for the damage then pay more come renewal time. If you're paying yourself don't bother letting insurance know.

Learnt that the hard way.

Get on AskMid. That will give you details of the insurer of the third party. Lodge a claim with them. Ask for an email address. Upload the video to a private link on YouTube and email the insurers the link for their viewing pleasure whilst they contact their policyholder for a response.

Pretty much this. I'm just going the same situation myself where my car was scraped by a visitor to the car park and the whole incident captured on CCTV.
I used the reg number to find her insurer via MID and phoned them up. I explained the situation, letting them know that her actions (including driving off without leaving a note) were all available to view due to the proliferation of cameras everywhere.

After the insurance company contacted their client they didn't even want to see the footage and gave me the go ahead to have my car repaired (lower edge of both n/s doors).
It's spent the last week at the paint shop and I should get it back in a few days. My own insurance company haven't been involved at any stage, but they have been informed.
