Write off sale date

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can help. My car has recently been written off. I’ve been told I need to tell dvla online that it’s been written off. When doing this it’s asking for a sale date? Do I put the date my car got taken away or the date I agree to the settlement?

Insurance company do it

Edit: If its not an insurance claim then you give the scrapyard the v5 and they will mark it as scrapped
