I was intrigued by the thread title. I'm not really sure what the question is? hehe

Do you mean Q plate?

You do still see them, for radically altered vehicles, but it seems people who make kit cars have got better at keeping to the rules to use the original registration, so there's probably fewer than there were.

How come you don’t see them anymore
When did the legislation change and what to?
My dad had a CGO746B a 64 Corrina. A few A platers around but mostly scrapped.I don't think many A platers were registered in the 1st place.

My Dad advised me never to buy a car on;
‘Q’ plate...as they could have been a damaged / repaired insurance job.
Or... cars with a red border around the number plate.
Or... on Irish Plates. rolleyes

Or Did OP some mean some of ‘Q’s Cars.

There were less A plate cars at the start of the '60s as it wasn't rolled out nationally until the B plate in '64.

The original 'A' plate (at end of reg no) was only issued in London. 'B' went national.

My wife's 1st car was a B-reg Mini 850.

My Dad still has the original front plate (D) off his ‘66 Cortina 1500 GT hanging up in his greenhouse.

My friend imported an old 1964 camper from California and it was designated a B at the end.

A few weeks later returning back to the van a 1963 beetle was parked next to it with the same numberplate but ending in A.

Was your wifes first car a 60s mini or 80s mini?
