Had a new car delivered recently...when was it ordered?
Discussion
Ordered a Volvo XC60 R-Design for Mrs GP back in May 2021. Volvo tried to deliver it to us in Nov 21 but they managed to order the wrong model with the wrong engine, so the correct one was re-ordered and we took delivery of that one in mid May this year. It should have taken a few months longer but they prioritised the build due to the first cock up.
Wife's company car (Leon Estate) was ordered last November. Original quoted delivery date was end June 2022. Around January, the lease company extended that to August 2022, and then around Easter time they told us it would be November 2022.
No further communication, until suddenly a couple of weeks ago, they got back in touch to tell her that they were delivering her car the next day. We didn't quite believe them thinking that it was just some automatic email from the original booking, but 8:30 the next morning a guy turned up at the house with it on a transporter. Given it was the right colour, spec and also had the factory fit towbar fitted I think it's unlikely that it was someone else's cancelled order but not impossible.

RR Velar P400e - 10 months. Was quoted anything between 4 months and a year!
I should point out that when buying a new Apple Mac, if you go for a spec that exists, you'll get it 48 hours later... if you personalise, it'll take a lot longer. Same with cars. Obvious, but worth pointing out. There is no way on earth I would have got the car I wanted in a month having gone for a very specific colour, options order.
I have bought about a dozen new cars over the decades and usually it's taken 3 or 4 months. 10 months was a bit of a shock, but it being a hybrid and the chip shortage meant it was reasonably understandible.
