I now live on a narrow street with street parking available on just the one side and no drives. Most houses have a car or two and finding a space in the street can be chaos. My side is the side with no on street parking.

One guy insists on having 2 cars, one of which is left outside next doors house and the other outside his, plus a motorbike which is fully covered and also never moves. He only ever uses the car directly outside his house and when leaving he gets out and wheels the motorbike in to the space so there’s no room for another car.

Short of buying a bike and parking it in the gap he leaves when reserving a space with his bike is there anything that can be done? Talking to him will achieve nothing

Contact your local council and ask them to impliment a controlled parking zone with a permit system?

Infuriating isn’t it. I just learned not to get annoyed, there’s 15 houses on our street, all on road parking, the bottom end where I live are all 1 car families so tend to expect to park outside our houses, unfortunately the top end are all 2/3 car households so just slam their crap down our end sometimes for weeks on end. Technically if people have paid their road tax there’s nothing you can do. They’re still w***ers though

I’m not convinced his bike even is taxed. He covers it up so no plate visible. Could take it up a notch and buy a cheap moped to stick in the gap.

I had a problem a while back with a neighbour that owned 3 cars, they would keep two on the drive and one on the road between our properties although they would constantly let it overhang our drive while leaving theirs free.

We were having work done, i popped round and let them know we were having a skip and best to move their vehicle, you know, neighbourly concern.
Once they moved it, and the skip was firmly on my drive i then parked my car on the road, overhanging their drive by a considerable margin and left it there for a month, using the missus cars for trips.

They got the message.

People have apparently taken to keying long term parkers in the narrow streets in a nearby town. Folk come and dump their car/van for a week while "Island Hopping" or something. Dump them anywhere, blind bends/corners of junctions etc - All according to local FB reports,

You could buy a scrap transit or something, remove the plates, play a sort of bagatelle down the street bouncing off the cars you don't like then burn the thing out in front of his door. (Remember to wear gloves).

(Do not try this at home. This was not a serious suggestion and is likely to end up with you in court).

Have a peak and report it then. And check insurance too.

Though bikes are pretty cheap to tax..

I remember a dead end one sided parking street, cars parked at 45 degree angle near the end..

One car was dumped outside a house and moved once every few months, it went out for the day on a rare trip, and the homeowner put a trailer there, parked 45 degrees like the other cars.. This was used to secure the parking, and the homeowner would come home, drive onto it and park like that with the trailer never moving.

Doubt you can do it if not parked 45 degrees angle, but this solved his problem.
Just made getting in & out a bit of an exciting climbing game.

Next time, whip into the space before he has chance to wheel the bike out!

What about other residents in the street? Can you form a lynch mob, sorry delegation, and go and discuss with him?

Check the plate when he's out, look up whether it's taxed, if it's not report it?

You could pop a bike between his and other car when out, if he's using other car and bike to keep the space, will muck that up for him.

To be fair, he has a clever use of vehicles that's working well for him, not so much rest of street..
Probably thinks is a big PITA but wants car outside his own house.

Motorbikes tend to be relatively easy to move. It would be a shame if he came back to find it elsewhere.
Of course that’ll probably result in damage or threats to whoever is parked in “his” space.

The reality is that you either put up with it, or move.

Buy a Smart ForTwo and park it in the space between the bike and the next car. You can park it perpendicular to the pavement so easy to get it into and out of a tight space.

We live in a relatively small development. Each house has a garage and a smallish driveway. My TVR is in the garage and we manage to park our daily drivers, a Ka and Fabia on the drive. Our neighbours both have three vehicles, but use their garages for storage. Consequently, their extra cars are parked in places where; 1) according to the deeds there should be no parking and
2) their cars present a problem for others wishing to access their property.
We have tried to discuss this sensibly with both sets of neighbours but their response is always, “well, you have 3 cars!” They singularly refuse to accept that, by using their garage for storage, they are inconveniencing other people. One set has just told us that their youngest child is now having driving lessons and will ultimately have a car. They had the bloody cheek to ask if they could park this fourth car on some of my property at the side of our house. They seemed genuinely surprised when I said NO!

Or, like someone I used to know who had a drive, but put van half on road & grass outside his house with enough room for 3 cars.

You could get really, really upset if anyone parks in that 13m long area, even just one car despite ample room, come out with an A4 sticker and bang it on windscreen on drivers side muttering profanities and telling any passer by what some censoredser has done, with a squirt of extra glue, so you can watch them peel it off before they drive off...

Seemed a really nice fella apart from that little quirk too.
