In car helmet to helmet comms? Can't hear instructor!

Last few track days where I've had instruction I can't for the life of me hear what the instructor is saying, even when I've told them to speak up! And I loath to shell out for more in-depth tuition if I can't hear anything at all.

I was looking at walkie-talkie headsets, but don't really need them to be wireless. Is there something that would allow you to connect two of these together, for example?
