Tell your insurers.
Let them deal with it.

Report it to your insurance company.
They will contact his insurance company.
He will say that he was stationary at the traffic lights when some idiot drove into the back of his car.

Sadly, this.

If ever in an accident again, the priority (assuming the guilty party isn’t trying to do a runner) is to get the details of an independent witness. Or buy a dashcam.

Surely it would be better to buy a dash cam prior to the accident…

No not yet it isn't I was replying to the guy who said I'd get the blame for driving in to the back of him.

If you have an admission of culpability then it should be easy.

You may have found another honest driver. That said keep us informed as to how things develop….

Your initial post said you said you weren't going through your insurance, assume that's changed, if they have his number.

Possible he had good intentions but then realised the damage will cost more than £50 and stuck his head in the sand not realising that this is why he's been paying for insurance all these years...

So you gave your insurers the texts? Go through them then if he's ignoring you. Your insurance probably won't go up that much. What's the cost of repairing your car? Bit stupid of him. Even if he's had some kind of emergency, how long would it have taken him to text you back? He'll probably moan at you for 'dobbing him in' but serves him right! 2 minutes and he could have avoided it!
The guy who grazed my rear bumper in Sainsburys car park, when I was in the car, paid direct to the body shop, best and most expensive in the area but he'd used 'em before so didn't complain even though it cost him £250+
Maybe he made a habit of crunching other cars hehe Mine was even easier as the guy who owned the body shop lived near me so picked my car up first thing and dropped it off at about 6 o'clock the same evening so I didn't even have to drive it there smile

You said 'the insurance company have his number' - so you have contacted them and discussed things ?

What I meant was I'm assuming his insurance has his number,if I show the screen shots of the messages saying hed pay comming from his number then that would be proof enough of liability

Right, so you are hoping that screenshots of a random text conversation with what might or might not be a number linked to what might or might not be a real insurance policy is going to rescue you.

Do you even know that he has valid insurance?

Have you checked if his car is insured on the MIB database?

What are the T&Cs of your own policy regarding how long after an accident before you are required to inform your insurers? They may reject your claim if you leave it too long.

If you rely solely on the magic screenshots and let this drag on I think you're in for a big disappointment.

Oh it’s worse than that…
Read what your insurance certificate says about having an accident.

Especially the bit about admitting liability.

The screenshot probably says "soz about the prang, hope u is ok" which to a millennial is a clear legally enforceable admission of liability from another party.

To everyone else it's a random irrelevant text message that has now been deleted on the senders phone.

OP, if the other driver is ghosting you, then it seems likely he has had a change of heart, and your only recourse is through your own insurance company.
