Personalised numberplates - when do they go on sale?

[donkmeister]

For the date-related plates, does anyone know when DVLA start auctioning them off?

I can see 72 plates are already on sale on the DVLA website, just wondering when 73 plates are likely to go on sale as I might finally be able to get a worthwhile one (and that doesn't need screwheads and wonky fonts!)

For standard issue plates on their website, they usually aim to release them to purchase 4 months in advance based on previous years.

72 plates were available start of May.
23 Plates will be available start of November.
73 plates will be available start of May next year.

Obviously anything that vaguely resembles a word or a name is likely to be held back for a future auction, or have a higher buy it now price on the website.

Indeed, I enquired about a plate for my 40th birthday and was told it would be put through checks and then added to an auction.

SIX YEARS later, i finally got a notification that it was coming up. Went onto the auction, found its start price was double what I was happy to pay and it sold for double that again.

I sulked for a week and then changed my name to my current car's number plate as it was easier and cheaper. Trouble is, I no longer have that car, so I feel a bit silly now...
