What lack of servicing horrors have you seen?

This one dropped my jaw a bit, in all my years I've rarely seen something as dumbfounding as this one. Young girl brings her car to the garage
and tells me her brake pedal is sinking to the floor and there is a bad noise coming from the front passenger side, I tell her to leave it with
me and I will have a look over it, she hands me the key and heads away with her dad who had followed her down. She told me the handbrake
was fine because that's what she used to get it to me
.
Anyway a bit later on I start on it, remove the wheel, unbolt the caliper and then the expletives start to fly!.
So what has happened is the pad has worn away all the friction material leaving metal to metal contact, eventually the disc and the pad backing
plate become so worn down that the pad backing plate falls through the gap between the disc and carrier and does a bunk, this then leaves the
piston in direct contact with the disc, both of them then wear down to the point where the piston pops out of the caliper and loses all the brake
fluid, pedal sinks to the floor and that then becomes the stage where she realises something is up.
This has had to have been ongoing for a considerable length of time and mileage to get to this condition, how on earth she didn't suspect
something was wrong long before this is just astonishing. Words fail me.
Look at the difference in thickness between the two faces of the disc. The piston had lost about 5mm, past the ring where the dust cover sits.

The fact there is still material left on the outer pad suggests a severely seized piston, the noise must have been horrendous, I guess it hasn't had a recent mot, or they should be in trouble for not catching that one.
No the piston has been operating freely, the outer pad still has meat on it because the sliders and the pad were seized solid, the only thingmoving when she's been braking was the piston.
MOT was away back last september so it's been through a winter, still no excuse.

I noticed my daughter's Jazz making a noise from the rear brakes - car was still under warranty and service contract so I told he to take it to the dealer. They said it was fine and sent her on her way, so she was happy that the car didn't have an issue.
I spoke to the service manager and he agreed to look again. One of the rear calipers had siezed and one pad had worn right down - the noise was the acoustic wear indicator, lucky it was a pad had that had one fitted.

Sister has a 2003 mini, says oil light keeps coming on. She's just bought it so I think maybe it's the sensor. Keep having to put off looking at it for a few weeks until I drain the oil to change it plus sensor. Only got about a coke can worth of oil, how the car kept going all that time I dont know. She had it for about a year before crashing it too, no other problems.
I recently bought a 2002 Mondeo as a runaround. Owned by an old couple and serviced religiously by the local Ford Main Dealer with the most recent service being in January 2022.
Despite this, I still bought a service kit and serviced it myself. The oil was clean enough but the pollen filter was in a terrible state and the air filter has May 2012 hand written on it.
