Accident/fault/Facebook
Discussion
I got this off a Facebook forum. We’ve a few heroes here and some knowledge drivers, so what do you think?
“Dear members, I need your kind advise please 🙏, My husband was driving this morning and we wanted to take turn to northbrook road from cranbrook road , he placed indicator and started turning from the blue dots in the picture , someone who was also turning (in red marks) hit our car from behind , both of our cars got dents , he is asking money and I am willing to settle , I have 2 questions- 1.) was this our fault to turn from that side , it was a new road for us , we placed indicator and started to turn from that right arrow box, before that box there was another right arrow box which was going to another road (the drive ). I need suggestions to understand and ensure if it was our fault. Thank you so much for your help and understanding, 2.)We are in stress also want to understand if paying money and not going through insurance can cause any issues. Thank you so much 🙏🙏”

It seems you were both turning right?
Other car sounds like it was positioned to enter the right turn only lane correctly, although behind you.
You were in the wrong lane, but realised you needed to turn right.
Imo, your car should have yielded as the right turn only lane would have priority imo.
Unfortunately it is Ilford, people are in a hurry and don't give way to avoid getting stuck at a red light again.

There is two right turns, the driver behind went through the previous one and took the second colliding with the OP's car..Other car sounds like it was positioned to enter the right turn only lane correctly, although behind you.

It's not clear in the description that this is what happened? Perhaps I misread. Even so, the second car has ended up in the correctly lane and OP is then trying to cut across it from a straight ahead only lane. From what I can figure out then, the red car (Arrow in the case) has entered the first right turn lane, crossed the solid white line and collided with the rear of the Blue car who positioned themselves correctly for the turn lane for the second right turn.

Think the solid white line is what pushes it into the blue cars favour.

What matters is under the text 'Cranbrook Rd' and the scribbled red arrow, there is a white arrow in the road showing that bit of road is only for turning into The Drive'.
However everyone has a duty to look and avoid other vehicles, even if the other vehicle is disobeying some white paint.

Strictly speaking, red car wrong, blue car right.
But, blue car should have checked. Red car should have seen indicator of blue car and held back.
However - blue car says "it was a new road for us". Maybe it was a new road for red car too and they thought they needed to get in lane sooner than was actually the case. Or maybe red car was just being driven aggressively.
I've lost count of the number of collisions I've avoided by leaving enough space for other people who were supposed to yield to me but clearly weren't going to.
Better observation, more patience and tolerance of other road users would mitigate a lot of collisions, but it appears most road users are butthurt by the notion of giving up "their territory" to someone else.
