I have got my civic coupe up and running, it is mot'd and taxed, now for insurance. I still have my Accord on the road and it's insurance expires Sept 18. If I add the civic onto the accords insurance, I won't get my NCD as it can only be applied to one car.
I will be selling the accord soon, so will only have two cars for a short while. If I get the civic insured with no NCD, then sell the accord, I will lose my NCD. How can I avoid this?

Your NCD will remain valid for a while even with nothing insured. Even if it does lapse, you might find that you can get a discount on your insurance that is pretty much the same as the NCD anyway (assuming you are a normal risk driver)

Also, if you speak with the insurer they'll arrange it so the NCD ends up on whatever car you are left with.

Thanks Truck, speaking to them is probably the best thing. That's easier said than done though, so I thought I'd ask on here while the phone lines were busy. Probably add to my existing policy which ends 18/9. Can't help thinking insuring a car for one and a half months is gonna be ridiculously expensive though.

You won't get any NCD on the Civic when you add it to the policy for the Accord, but when you sell the Accord you should be able to put the NCD onto the Civic.

Shouldn't be a problem, I've done it loads of times when cars have overlapped!

Just be aware that some insurers aren't too keen to insure 2 cars on one policy for very long - sometimes a week or two, or maybe a few months at most.

When I first got a 2nd car in 2014 a local broker (A-Plan Insurance) arranged a policy for my 2nd car where the insurer would mirror the NCD on my 1st car so that could be another option, then once you've sold the first car transfer the NCD to the other one.

Hi so I managed to get through on the phone, they have a no. to phone for policy changes which is open til eight. They were happy to add the Civic till the policy expires, and it only cost £18.78!
Many thanks for the advice on here, and many thanks LV Insurance:-)
