What’s a good score on this app?

1000 apparently though why anyone would install it in the first place is a mystery

I use it just as a bit of a non-serious way of making me drive a bit more thoughtfully and smoothly. It's worked. Fuel economy increased and less drama when out and about.

My long term score is 910.

You're giving your data to an insurance broker by doing so. It's unclear to me whether they are sharing with other companies, but I'd expect they are. Drivescore is clearscore.

It's not just about your actual driving by the way, it's also about things like which apps are running on your phone [distractions], how much you drive at night and so on. It's a risk tool for an insurer. I sure as hell wouldn't want it anywhere near my phone, YMMV.

An app causes "less drama" when out and about, does it? New one to me.
If you can drive properly with an app telling you to, you can do it without.
It reminds me of George Carlin's rant about self-help books. https://youtu.be/BCsM35H9TFA?t=23

No doubt about it. I’d never use it. Just watch your premiums mysteriously going up.

My premium which has mysteriously halved you mean?

I put in a load of bks data so they have no idea it's me. It's just a way of measuring my driving.

They have at the very least your phone number.
If you logged into anything like google or icloud, they have that email address.
The app uses GPS and knows where it is. If you park near your house, they know where that is. Same for your job.

In fact, have a read of https://www.clearscore.com/drive-score-privacy-pol...

You can register with all the false crap you want. If you installed the app on your phone, you agreed to the above policy.

That's fine but I'm not worried as my driving style won't increase my premium. Hence both policies I have going down year on year. I'm not the least bit concerned about them knowing where I am at any time. I've nothing to hide. The tinfoil hat went in the bin.

Why not give your real info then?

I used this app and was immediately banned from driving when I swerved to avoid a baby. Then the CEO of car insurance came round and bummed my dog as agreed to by me in the terms and conditions.

biggrin

I'm great at driving but I don't want the Insurance Companies to know because they'll put up my premium. Not because my driving is high-risk of course but because the Insurance Companies don't know what "good" driving is.

What would happen if you ‘accidentally’ strayed over the speed limit then crashed could the insurance get out of it saying your driving was ‘illegal’?

I've no intention if using this kind of thing, but how does it know who is driving? If it automatically detects every time you are in a car, it will have no way of knowing whether or not you are driving. That really erratic driving, coupled with heavy mobile phone use could actually be when you're travelling in an Uber rather than driving yourself.
Surely people using this don't have to start the App every time they start the car. If you do have to select start every time, it could very easily be used to game the system where you turn it on and drive like a saint a few times to get a really good score but not use it otherwise.

You have to tell it "I'm not driving" if you're not driving but are in a car. It has a button for this.
