Last year my Wife had to have the roof replaced on her Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo (2018) It had been cracked by an external impact (stone on motorway) and was claimed through her insurance.

She's come to get a new policy this year and needs details of claims for her quotes and has queried the cost of her claim with last years insurer, they came back with £6800

Is the garage pulling a fast one or is this realistic? Seems extortionate to me.

That's borderline write off I'd have thought.

It makes no odds and you didn't pay for it so pass the number across and get on with your life.

If they're asking then it means they want to know...

Yeah pretty much this.

If the garage quoted it and the insurance company agreed and paid it, then that's the number to pass on I guess.

That's it smile

It was a <3 year old car with 4,800 miles on it, I sold it for £12,500 after it was repaired

I was of the understanding that the value of your previous claims affected your premium and that what you submitted is checked against MID so if that were true it would matter.

I wouldn't describe as Pano because it didn't open etc but yeah a full structural glass roof.

I guess i'm querying it as I know the owners of the garage and their family and it wouldn't surprise me if there was some financial irregularity.

On the other hand if a Skoda tech pops up and tells me that's entirely feasible then i'd happily believe that too.

The supplying dealer couldn't do the job, I asked them at the time.

What will you do if your suspicions are correct?

Query the cost with the prior insurer. As said above i think it affects the premium so why wouldn't i query it?

Because it was last year and you didn't pay the bill? How much the insurer paid is nothing to do with you, and you've no idea how much the repair cost as part of that.

What was the damage specifically besides "roof"?

Given when doing a renewal quote i've always been asked for previous claim date, details and value which then goes on to affect my premium (which we have been asked for this week) i'd say its very much to do with me and should I wish to see the paperwork i am legally entitled to request it. The damage was limited to roof only as above. Thanks for your input but i asked the validity of the repair cost not whether it was my business or not.

Yes, and what will you do then? Or more to the point, what do you think the insurer will do?
