It's originally an NI plate but now UK registered so could well have been transferred the same as a private reg.

Ageless plate - Irish origin.

They used to be a cheap way of hiding a cars age. Not sure what they cost now.

Couldn't it just be a NI registered car on its original number?

Technicality.. always was a U.K. plate issued in NI, now it appears to be on a car registered on the mainland

Ive not seen a NI plate over on the mainland. Is this legal? I assume so.
In fact on this note. Is is possible to see if a car has gone overseas for a period of time, then back? Apart from a gap in MOT history?

Yeah, loads around here in Manchester. Always seem to have an air of dodginess about them. Put it this way, I wouldn’t buy a car that’s on one.

Because the letter I has never been used in any number plate combination on the mainland, it is only used in N. Ireland. Possibly a legacy of when the whole of Ireland was part of the UK when number plates were introduced in 1904.

Incidentally, neither was the letter Z until the new format was introduced in 2001.

Of course a 'strategic' number 1 looks the same on the number plate font used. rolleyes

They used to be super common. They were typically £99 for a AAA9999 format that almost always had the last letter as a Z for some reason.

There loads of GB reg cars in NI likewise including shed loads on DVLA Swansea purchased private plates just as there are loads of NI plates on GB reg cars

In fact I think Loads of London buses are on NI plates .. certainly all the Boris busses are

Non Iron plate. The Boris buses were built by Wright bus in Northern Ireland.

Loads of coaches on 'dateless' N I plates - it disguises the age.

The LTZ series are not NI plates, they are only used on London Transport buses.
(But all NI plates contain the letter I or Z in their formats)

Indeed, and the number is directly associated to the chassis number
