Hi guys bit of a concern here. I currently have a Tesla model 3 and my insurance is around £1200 and I’m looking to get a 2019 Range Rover svr and I’ve done a quote on my insurance to change my car and it came back as going down £405 so I actually save money on my monthly payments, but I’ve tried to go on comparison sites to see what a new quote would cost and the cheapest insurance I can find is £5800 I’m 24 by the way. Does anyone know why this is and would I just be able to change my car on my insurance without any issues as there seems to be a big difference here in prices.
How long have you been with your current insurer?
You're a known quantity to them, whereas other companies will just assess you based on the data you type into the site. If you can get the quote in writing from your current insurer I'd just take the plunge and go with them.
ETA, the quote from your current insurer, that is definitely just £405 a year for the SVR? Or do they want to charge you £405 in addition to the £1200 you've already shelled out for your current insurance?

The OP said his current premium is going DOWN by £405 so he's getting a rebate for the remainder of his term. Makes you wonder how much the premium was for the model 3!You're a known quantity to them, whereas other companies will just assess you based on the data you type into the site. I would be tempted to ask your current insurer if they will re-insure you next year. If not then you might find yourself backed into an expensive corner!

My insurance with my current insurer is £1200 I pay it monthly but if I was to change to the SVR my monthly payments would go down £50 for the remaining 7 months of my insurance, this was done by logging into my insurance and making a change to my policy online. You're a known quantity to them, whereas other companies will just assess you based on the data you type into the site. My current price was £1200 so it going down is ridiculously cheap for the car I am enquiring about, there’s 7 months left on my insurance, If they won’t re insure me I will sell the car as I only really keep my cars for 6-12 months anyway, but just wanted to make sure I was insured for the renaming 7. I would be tempted to ask your current insurer if they will re-insure you next year. If not then you might find yourself backed into an expensive corner!

Pretty strong volte-face in car choice.
New term learnt! In environmental & sound terms, very!
In speed terms about the same.
If I had to choose I'd have both
In fact I've a skinny version of both currently - i3 and V8 mustang!I’ve got an EV and a few less environmental options myself.

No doubt cheaper just to remain with current Insurer ( who is ? ) with a vehicle substitute rather than start again but tbh I’m surprised at both the reduced premium with them and also the premium you quote elsewhere.
Appreciate you are 24 but would have assumed a premium somewhere between those 2.
I would guess that on renewal it will increase somewhat.

Just a thought... I'm assuming you had the quote with standard/manufacturers' security...See what the insurance price is with a tracker fitted, it might reduce the premiums by a lot.
If it does, then it might be worth getting a tracker fitted in the future (if it doesn't already have one that just needs activating!) if you decide to change insurers in the future.
Also I'm assuming its not that long to go until you're 25, which in itself might reduce the insurance premiums of high performance vehicles.
