Hi guys, new here, hope you're all well.

I sold my car on facebook yesterday, instead of filling the usual stuff out in the v5c, the guy said we can do it online now and he said he will do it, took the pic of the v5c, he filled my receipt of sale (it's only the reg, time, date and his name, very half assed writing) that I printed off, gave me money, happy days. I still have the v5c, gave him the new owner slip only.
Later on my dad came home and told him, he was a bit shocked, I did some research and apparently people can get up to no good in your old car and you will get the blame for it...

So here I am in this situation, wondering when or will he transfer the the v5 and it's giving me major anxiety... I tried calling him, no answer and wrote him on facebook today but messages are only sent, not even delivered so he hasn't replied... yet.

Do I give him the benefit of the doubt and wait a couple days for him to do the v5c online like a good person? This is giving me crazy anxiety right now.

What is my best course of action here please?

Thank you all.

Hes likely a trader who didnt want to declare that you and wont declare it to the next buyer, thus evading any responsibilities.

Just found this thread.

The conclusion there seems to be you need to phone the DVLA as soon as possible and give them all the details you have on the buyer, so its recorded you have sold the car.

If you have the v5 and his details, you can fill it out yourself right now online and do it.

Thanks for all the quick responses guys, he just called me 10 min ago and gave me all the details! Did it all online and he is now the owner.

Nearly had a panic attack and lesson learned for sure!

Take care all!
