RAC fixed by the roadside percentages
Discussion
They usualy seem to be pretty new so I would assume reliable and sold on before problems start.
Saying that I did see an AA van yesterday parked in a kwikfit type garage. Not sure if it was dropping off or getting fixed though.
Only time I have ever called out the RAC was to get a tow as my rx8 decided to burn out its catalytic converter and fill the cabin with smoke.

They run the vans on 5 year leases. I've been there two years now.
Personally broken down twice both times managed to limp it home. Once in a 2018 transit body control module s
t its self van was still running but wouldn't of wanted to put a customer at risk by still recovering things as lighting functions were playing up
Second time fuel filter split on vw transporter. I work nights out of hours so found a patrol who wasn't on shift and nicked his fuel filter to finish my shift
We have to wait in line like everyone else no special treatment.
Recovered a fellow patrol home when his turbo let go on my night out off and then gave him my van so he could carry on with his shift
It's more accidents that take the vans out of service.

I was being recovered a good few years ago on a AA flat bed. As the journey progressed the electrics were doing funny things like fading with the indicators.
Stopped to change trucks and I came back from the loo to see him jump-starting it, to get power to drop the bed. He had to ring a number for heavy recovery and minded not a jot as it put him into overtime..

I had the AA out to change my wheel on my transit (company policy as vans are too heavy when loaded to handle the standard Jack)
Got chatting with the man, they had a new van every 4 years but his was 18 months overdue, a transporter, which has had 3 drive shaft failures in the last year, said other than that he’s never broken down in 18 years as a driver!
Seems the vans are knackered after about 100k from what he was telling me of other drivers foo

Broke down with a broken drive belt in Bodmin Cornwall, driving an automatic Td5 Discovery. Phoned RAC who sent a pick up truck from a garage based in Tavistock, who transported vehicle back to Bristol. When I enquired of the driver/garage why they didn't just replace the drive belt on the roadside, I was informed there was no money in that for the garage. I now carry a spare drive belt, together with spanner to remove the radiator fan.
Only had 2 breakdowns in my yellow van;
1) DPF pressure sensor failed at night and dropped me in to limp mode, so I borrowed one from a colleague's van and performed a static DPF regeneration to clear it out. Erased the codes to restore full power and swapped the duff sensor back in. Ordered a new one and installed it the following day.
2) Alternator pulley sheared off 70 miles from home near the end of shift, fortunately the separate water pump drive belt was left intact when the main belt was spat off. Drove it home with no charging system or power steering and ordered an alternator to be delivered to home. Fitted it the following morning and returned to the road!
