A few years ago my wife and i went out for lunch at a harvester which we used quite regularly. As we drove away a police car approached us
from behind with lights flashing. We pulled over thinking perhaps he just needed to get past in a hurry but no he pulled up in front of us but as we had not done anything wrong we weren't worried. The officer then put me in the back of his car(childlocks on) and breath tested me.It turns
out it had been reported that i had been drinking before i entered the establishment and with my meal all of which was totally wrong as i had not drunk any thing alcoholic for at least a week and had only been drinking diet coke in spite of him claiming to have seen video evidence that i had been drinking. He did in all fairness apologise for the inconvenience and we shook hands and had a bit of a laugh about it afterwards.Anybody else had a similar experience.

A number of years ago, I was pulled over on the A2, at about 10 in the morning, driving to visit my mother.
Officer “I’ve stopped you because you were going a bit fast”
Me “really? I was just moving with the flow of the traffic”
Officer “as you’ve committed a moving traffic offence, I’m entitled to breathalyse you”
Me “that’s OK, I believe in random breath tests”
Officer, bristling somewhat, “it’s not a random breath test! Have you had anything to drink?”
Me “No, nothing”
Officer “well we’ll take this test and see”, and as I am blowing he continues “Now people driving past will take note and will be aware of drink driving”
Test was, of course, completely zero.
Officer “OK, off you go, just accelerate in the hard shoulder to get up to speed”

Weird.

Yep, fuel shortage of early 2000s in my new impreza turbo. Was picking mates sister up from a club, had been in the pub but was dry so when plod tapped on the window whilst I was waiting and said “it stinks of booze in here!” I was hauled out, no test available so taken to the local station.
Test showed zero, angry PC that brought me in told me to get a cab back to my car, “I don’t think so, you pulled me for nothing, dragged me away and now I have a friend and his sister walking 6 miles home and my car in a town centre probably being smashed to bits!”
Sergeant took pity and ran me back, car was untouched and I found my friends half way home, the sister walking bare foot with heels in hand.
I think someone in the pub might have had a grudge and done it, phoned and reported I’d been boozing then I was on the hit list that night.

I was pulled over in a police check in Cambridge one Xmas eve several years ago at about 6pm.

I had just dropped of a customer and was going home. I wound down the window, the policeman stuck his head in, saw the suit and tie, obviously had a sniff, and said " I can see you you haven't been drinking Sir, have a good Christmas and waved me off.

The guy stopped in front of me was blowing into a bag and looked rather flustered.

Many years ago I was stopped for what was in fact a random test, with the excuse 'you came around that bend a bit fast sir' which given that it was the roundabout outside the entrance to Hampton Court Palace and there was plenty of other traffic around was not really true.

However, no problem, as I, like a poster above, am happy with the idea of random breath tests. And I passed the test.

The weird thing was that while we were waiting for the crystals to change colour (that dates it!) the officer, who was evidently not the strong silent type, told me: You know, at this time of night there are lots of drunk pedestrians about. If you hit one at 30mph, no worries, if you are going faster than the 30 mph speed limit- you are in trouble.

Even then I thought it best to avoid hitting pedestrians, even at 30 mph or less! Of course nowadays the unfortunate driver would probably be blamed for not forseeing drunks in the road.

Maybe if the 'unfortunate driver' was looking...

so it's ok to hit drunkard pedestrians at less than 30mph. Thanks. I'll try to remember that next time

I was stopped just outside of Kings Lynn at about 2 am in my Corsa GSI, for apparently breaking too hard while approaching a round about in 1999.

We both new it was a bks, I was just a young lad 20 in a nice new car at 2 am.

Gave me a breath test and then wanted to know if it was my car etc etc.

Obviously no problems and when I explained I was RAF and just finished a swing shift at Marham all things were good. I had a bit of a laugh and joke about the excessive breaking thing and then we parted ways.

Thank goodness he hadn’t be on the road between swaffham and kings lynn before the island. I may well have been pressing on a bit cough cough.

1988 I had been off work sick with a cold (man flu)
Feeling better in the evening I decided to grab a McDonald’s and on the way home stopped in my local for a half.
Having climbed back into my trusty capri before I had a chance to start the engine a wpc tapped my window and demanded that I take a breathalyser test as I had just left the pub.

Having gulped down my half as I didn’t want my food to get cold I subsequently failed the roadside test.
I was then arrested and taken to a station 5 miles away as the local station had a broken machine.

At the station I blew 17, limit is 35 but don’t prosecute below 40.

You are free to go I was told, how about a lift 5 miles back to my car and food I asked?

Reluctantly they agreed.

Moral of the story is sip your beer out make them wait the 20 mins like they are supposed to.
