Anyone want to hazard a guess as to what's going on here?

Audi A3, registered March 2019, bought December 2020 from an Audi dealer.

Logbook came back with 3 previous owners in 18 months (?!) but I hadn't *specifically* asked that question although I had been verbally assured that the car had been "within the chain" from new, so I had assumed a staff car/demonstrator. I left this as happy with the car.

August 2022 - timing belt tensioner failed, complete engine rebuild. Parts were goodwill from Audi, labour goodwill from dealer, as the car was over 3 years old and therefore out of warranty. Lots of useful advice from posters on here.

I'm now getting reminders that my manufacturer warranty expires on 26th October - exactly 3 years & 7 months to the day after the car was registered, 1 year & 10 months after I bought the car. I don't understand this. If someone had paid to extend the warranty at the point of a previous purchase, surely it would be an additional 12 months above the 3 year warranty so March 2023?

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to why the car seems to have a 3 year 7 month warranty (to the day?). My obvious concern is that something major had previously happened, say in October 2019, and the warranty was reset to the full three years as part of the negotiation with the unhappy customer.

Generally an extended warranty will only apply to the then owner .
It could possibly have had a major issue at new like engine failure and the full 3 year warranty instated.
If the car runs fine with no issues and they're actually giving you that extended period I wouldn't worry about it..

Thanks. That's exactly my worry though - that would mean the car had had two major engine failures, and therefore a greater risk of another one?

My 2018 Golf R and 2019 RS4 certainly had transferable extended warranties as new car cost options.

From what I can see on the system, it's the approved used warranty that is due to expire next week. Along with key insurance, mot insurance and roadside assistance. It looks like the Approved Warranty kicked in from expiration of the manufacturer's warranty. There was also 2 Approved Warranty policies running at staggered dates, so that's probably why it's a random amount of months that don't tally up.

The factory warranty definitely expired March 2022 and there was no extra years warranty bought when purchased new.

Did try to PM but your profile won't accept them.
