Phase one of new Gordon Murray HQ complete

Building one of three has been topped out, with completion on schedule for next year

Some might say it’s not a great time to be undertaking big building projects, what with shortages of material and labour. Those same people will probably say it’s also not the best time to be building a bespoke V12 engine, either. But then Gordon Murray isn’t most people, and you suspect nobody involved at the Gordon Murray Group fits an overly cautious mould. And having only officially started construction on the new Windlesham HQ in June 2021, the firm has announced that topping out is complete for phase one. Which, if you also don’t know about building stuff, means the last bit of the structure is in place. Not bad going.

The completion of phase one means the whole project - comprised of three buildings and 140,000 square feet - is set for completion at the end of 2024. Once finished, the new HQ will be the central hub for Gordon Murray Automotive and Gordon Murray Technology, with design, manufacturing, sales, and servicing all based in Surrey. The next two phases of the £50m project will see 100 more jobs created as the engineering and development buildings come together. Which is a good news story if ever there was one.

Gordon Murray said of the topping out: “We are incredibly excited to reach this significant milestone. Constructing our innovative new campus has been planned for over three years and we have worked tirelessly getting to this significant stage for the last 18 months. We are now celebrating the first chapter in completing this state-of-the-art facility, which will attract world-class talent and demonstrates the strength of the Gordon Murray Group as we prepare for even greater success.”

He continued: “We are entering the next stage of the Highams Park project with much anticipation and I know it will be a fantastic new home for the Gordon Murray Group family and a great facility for our customers to visit.”

Fantastic to see what a success Gordon is making of GMD. Even at 76 he still clearly has the drive and passion I wish I had at 25!

They're also hiring staff at pace as well. I've seen the specs of some of the senior finance roles. Good luck to them

Things exist which I will never own, touch or maybe even see, and yet I'm glad they do.

TVR should have had him design the factory as well as their car, given he's that much further ahead and they are still trying to find roof tiles or something daft.

This is nice but where are the news on the T.50 and when that car arrives? The last official update was in January and back then they said the production start will be in Summer. Now it seems more like it's not even gonna be by the year's end.

I'm not sure I agree with the sentiment but I certainly can't cope with the spelling.

I'll never buy an airplane, a train, probably not a boat, a combine harvester nor a lorry.

Shame.

He is our own Horacio Pagani or Christian von Koenigsegg. People like this should be celebrated!!!

They have a dream and a vision, which they deliver on.

Great success story in a world full of doom and gloom.

Would I love one YES, can I afford one NO, happy that cars like this exist ABSOLUTELY, otherwise I suspect you are on wrong forum!

What a sad outlook if you view life like that.

I know this isn't a grammar and punctuation forum, but it'd help if you used a little.

It's definitely good news. Kudos to Gordon Murray and, hopefully, more jobs to be created as they grow.

I do understand where you’re coming from, but we are currently a hero culture that heaps adulation on individual success. You will be expected to participate or be pecked to death. I found the McLaren factory rather a depressing place, I suspect this new venture may follow the airport terminal style of architecture. Not excited but fair play to all involved.
