Minimum fuel payment
Discussion
Next time you fill up, squeeze the handle gently and then release it. You'll find it stops immediately, even if only a 20p's worth of fuel has been dispensed.
There are usually notices saying minimum delivery of 2 litres, but I think that minimum is more about meeting accuracy tolerances than a literal minimum. It would be very dangerous for a pump to insist on spraying out two whole litres if the person filling up noticed some kind of problem just as he squeezed the handle.

My 1979 Honda Dax has a 2 litre fuel tank, with a blocked reserve line. The most I’ve ever managed to get into it is 1.5L, but as you can imagine I keep it topped up constantly to avoid running out of fuel and being stranded at the side of the road. Sometimes I put in as little as 0.3/0.4 litres and I have never ever had an attendant say anything other than sarcastic but friendly comments.
