Delta 4x4 previews Amarok 'Beast' conversion

Need a pickup fit for any adventure? Right this way

The off-road pickup has enjoyed something of a resurgence in recent years, with trucks like the Ranger Raptor and Toyota Hilux GR Sport - to say nothing of all the American stuff - really doing lifestyle vehicle properly. Can’t put trials bikes in the back of an SUV now, can you? For the moment, VW has seen fit not to kit out the new Amarok with all the gear and some idea of what you might do with it, which has at least left the aftermarket to work its magic.

This is Delta 4x4’s vision of what its Amarok ‘Beast’ will look like. And if it looks extreme, remember that Delta is the same company that upgraded the Rolls Cullinan to rally raid spec - so there are no half-measures involved. To that end, the Beast will ride a substantial 150mm higher than standard (though Delta hasn’t confirmed what kind of suspension kit will be used to achieve that) on those incredible off-road wheels, either 18- or 20-inch in diameter.

The smaller wheel rides on predictably enormous 305/70 tyre, necessitating the fitment of the arch extensions. Plus, of course, there’s the rest of the overhaul, including the roof rack with spare wheel, PIAA lamps like it’s a rally car and a winch to rescue fellow off-roadists - the Delta Amarok Beast is going to be a very serious pickup, in other words; on top of the already fairly serious pickup that the Amarok already is. Rendered next to a standard car, it makes VW's original look like a toy truck.

With Delta having created various Beast-level upgrades before, including for the Nissan Navara and Ford Ranger, expect the customer-ready Amarok to be available soon. For the moment the firm suggests referring to its website for additional info; whatever the end result, don’t expect it to come cheap. UK prices for the new car haven’t yet been announced, and it’s still possible to pay £40k for an old Amarok…

In the right setting I think that’s pretty cool, but you’d look a right weapon driving that down the local high street.

I rather mistakenly assumed that all 4x4 pickups were off road ready hence their compromised on road manners.

“The firm suggests referring to its website for further information”…

Hmmm, no idea why I did it as I’ve no interest in this rendered lump whatsoever, but anyway I did check out their website and am now nursing a headache and am in a state of total bewilderment. What do they do? What do they sell? How can you buy it if you want it? fk only knows, but apparently they’ve been doing whatever it is for 40 years. Mind bending gobbledygook but anyway good luck to them, bloody crazy mentals rotate

THere's a reason the older V6's command big money still, because they are fantastic. I had a Wildtrack Ranger on loan from Ford for 24 hours when I was shopping around for new transport, I also test drove the Hilux and the D-Max, I have no regrets. This new monstrosity (with or without the Beast conversion) is a mess and does away with all the good things that made the VW original fantastic, I see no reason to change personally.
