Golf R driver caught speeding, 174mph

A 22 year old in Australia has been caught speeding at 280kmh/174mph in a 110kmh/68mph limit area. Things aren't going to end well for him.
174mph in a Golf R though. VW does a performance pack that removes the 155mph limiter and let's it go to about 165mph. Will tuning it after that get it to 174mph easily?

Even with the limiter it'll show about 270kph on the dash while doing about 155mph GPS-verified.174mph in a Golf R though. VW does a performance pack that removes the 155mph limiter and let's it go to about 165mph. Will tuning it after that get it to 174mph easily?

Derestricted and with some engine tuning I could see one doing 174mph GPS while showing mid-290s on the dash.
If a standard Golf R really is about 310hp and tops at 168mph, you'd need around 345hp to get to 174mph on my rough calcs.

A simple remap only sees 360/370 so quite conceivable that kind of speed is possible once derestricted.
Lot of hot hatches with 400 plus bhp now standard, so I suppose it is conceivable, and a little worrying that a tuned M140i/Golf R, RS3 etc could top 200, or not too far off.
It being able to do it, and doing it though.

Forget the derestricted autobahn it was built for, it'd also have been legal in the Aussie NT until 2007 and then from 2009 until 2016 on various parts of the Stewart highway.A Merc A45S will go about the speed of that tuned Golf R without any work; it'll do it with a warranty.
Tuners have built 200mph-capable versions of that car.
*sigh* 170mph isn't the supercar-only territory it once was.

It's 2 (in some places, 3) lanes+hard shoulder in each direction, with a big central divider (big as in, trees in it) - it's a main route from Sydney to Melbourne.

Was watching a video of a Tuned M140i pulling away from a 911 turbo at the weekend, from a standstill it got murdered as you would expect but once rolling it did 100 to 200 kmh in five and a bit seconds.Some utterly mental cars out there now, its a powerful/capable engine as standard, even without any internal changes like 600 bhp is possible.
Seems a bit overkill ish though, I like the tech side and lap it up but no actual need for that much power.
Remember when it was a K and N and Peco Big bore back box, taking you from say 110 bhp to about 105
Before that, remember talking to a young lad who had spent an inheritance of a few thousand tuning an Escort of some description, think it was a 2 litre Pinto but not an RS2000, had the works done and was reputedly 150/160 bhp, did go very well to be fair juding by the way he left the Dog and Partridge Car Park in High Lane sideways.

He was issued with a Court Attendance Notice for drive speed/manner dangerous and is due to appear in Moss Vale Local Court on Tuesday 20 December 2022.
His driving privileges have been withdrawn.
I recon he'll lose his license for 6 months if found guilty. An interesting aspect of NSW law is that they can also impound the car for the duration, so they may put his motor in storage for 6 months too.His driving privileges have been withdrawn.
