This is a new one one me.

Where I live we've had a spate of VW Golf Gti & GTd Mk7 (but not R) cars having their front bodywork stolen.

Is this now a "thing"? Seems all other marques & models (at the moment) are going unmolested.

I wonder what's happening? Are Gti & Gtd panels in really short supply?

Nothing new.

Plenty cars stripped for parts like this on a regular occurrence. Recently up here it was sort of 2018 era Corsas... can see why, plenty either being bumper and repaired cheap or being bought from salvage auctions and why but new parts then paint them when Jeff the Jakey will nick you everything you need for £50 cash.

There was an incident when several cars were stripped in similar fashion at a festival... Range Rover Sport amongst others.

It's a proper bugger. Weird it should focus on Gti & Gtd

I can't seem to find it now but I read a thread earlier where a couple of scrotes removed the front bumper off a Toyota Yaris.

Upgrades for lesser models and / or fixing damaged ones... plenty about, plenty bashed, easy to sell on with no questions asked etc etc.

I'm guessing maybe so. Ignored the Golf Rs though.

To echo a comment above, nothing new, just moving to different cars. Mk7 Fiesta ST's were (probably still are) common for having various bumper / panels / trims removed.

A few years back, in a house just around the corner from me,, i was driving to work one morning and saw the lad stood next to his Fiesta ST obviously dealing with the fact that overnight someone had helped themselves to the bumpers / skirts / headlights, most likely to either repair a dodgy crashed car or to be sold for someone to "ST look" their base model Fiesta.

In the early - mid 1990s, in east London, Renault 5 GT Turbos, we’re having their front bumpers and grilles stolen. Ask me how I know......

I admit I did not read all above... but those cars all seem to be photographed in the same area?

It is the first I've heard of parts being stolen from cars in this way... not that I've been looking for information on vehicle crime trends. Alloys was a common one. Stereos before that. Catalytic converters we've all heard of too.. but this is unusual! I guess it'll be happening more frequently now word is getting around that this is a revenue stream for the unscrupulous.

Definitely not a new one - Fiesta STs have been having the same issue with the bumpers/grills/lights/wheels stolen. I saw one a few years ago where they'd obviously managed to get in it - they'd left it on bricks with all the exterior panels taken and the seats and infotainment removed from the inside.

As daft as it sounds, theres a big market for mating VW Caddy bumpers with GTI/GTD bumpers to make things that look a little less commercial. Cheaper to nick one if they're that easy to remove. Definitely specifically targeted given the headlights (which are worth a load more) have been left...

Must be easily removed without needing the bonnet opened.
Defender bonnets and doors were a popular theft (when they didn't take the whole thing) as were Discovery 2 facelift headlights.

Similar happening with all cars.

Seems to have gone up a notch since every man and their dog seemingly decided to start buying wrecks from Copart and "repairing" them. Presumably, many have a degree of moral flexibility when it comes to sourcing the parts (or sometimes the complete cars).

New regulation is needed urgently around who can buy and repair damaged cars.

Scrotes used to target Ford dealers and nick whole front ends off Fiesta and Focus STs.

Angle grinders were regularly used. They get the bmper and the scrap metal.

The knobhead DJ Toby Foster had his front bumper/lights nicked from his Range Rover on his drive.
