Entertaining observations on the first evening of -c temperatures near me.

BMW Steaming past on the motorway in triple figures...
10 minutes later waft past him, parked backwards in the scenery on an otherwise straight and only moist motorway.

30 minutes later, another car had managed to understeer straight into a brick wall on a 90deg right hand bend in a 30.

Must be the chill in the air!

Did you stop and assist with either of those incidents?

It's the same around here.
I can all but guarantee the headlines in the local paper after the first icy/wintery weather will be along the lines of "Police advise drivers to take care after spate of accidents,"

Must be the chill in the air?

Must be the lack of anything between their ears.

-4c here (Germany) when I got in the car the this morning. No problem at all though, one of the advantages of driving a car with programable heating. Car was warm and all ice had melted from the windows by the time I got in it.

Another fascinating post on PH. Why is there no English word for schadenfreude?

I was in Germany last week. The vast majority of cars had winter tyres on and in general people drive slower on normal roads.

In most of Germany (I believe it varies by State) you are required to have winter rated tyres if the temperature is too low. Technically it is only an offence if you have an accident and don't have them when the weather required them but Germans being Germans religiously change them around November until the following Spring each year. My current car has (and my previous one had) all year tyres, simply because I'm too lazy to change tyres twice a year. They are perfectly good enough and satisfy the local law.

We have a saying here in Sweden:
Schadenfreude (skadeglädje) Is the only true joy.

PH would cease to function without schadenfreude . But perhaps some cows are so sacred that their demise can't be celebrated ...

The OP has one of those cars that looks like it has slithered backwards through Halfords.

Fail to see how it’s entertaining. Seems an odd thing taking joy from people having accidents, then posting on a forum congratulating yourself for no doing do.

PH, it really does highlight the odd ones. It really must be the chill in the air. Perhaps put a hat on to keep your bonce warm.

The british fascination with using innappropriate tyres on their daily drivers

I ran winter tyres on my e91 and latterly used all season tyres all year round, never had any problems with ice and snow.

All bread and butter cars should be sold with all season tyres in my view

When I had my 182, it was and has been the only car I've owned where there was a significant difference in grip when temperatures were sub 3 degrees.

Michelin sport 3 tyres from memory.

In what way? Is it fitted with a bike rack, a new set of wiper blades and a Garmin dash cam?
