100W is going to achieve f
k all.
Many diesels from the mid range up actually have a roughly 1KW PTC electric element in the climate control system anyway to get lukewarm air coming out early, I've had a few cars with it and can't say I've noticed much of a contribution but 1KW doesn't go very far when ingesting air at 0C in any volume.

The 100w fan heaters are really not much use.
Fitted to MrsD's Transit day van is a Webasto night heater. The digital timer can be set for instance 30mins before you want to set off. Very handy in the winter , windows clear and toasty interior. It was fitted as an option but can easily be retrofitted..

I've done this for years. Well done for pointing out warm, NOT boiling.
I would add that you should turn on the wipers once the blades are free and wipe the screen dry. Otherwise as soon as you start off, wind chill will re-freeze the screen. I see this a lot.
Another tip Is to turn the ignition off with the wipers in the up position and trap a bin liner. In the morning, pull it off, hey presto dry screen.
Only works if it's dry weather of course.
Otherwise the bin liner gets frozen to a wet screen.

Pair of gloves and an ice scraper will be quicker and cheaper.
Also wont drain your battery unexpectedly.
A 2 litre bottle of room temperature water is best. NOTHING does it faster than this. I would NOT use a scraper, leaves marks on your windscreen, if you do not care about the car or go to £5 car wash boys, then go for it. Also wont drain your battery unexpectedly.
I have NEVER used a £5 car wash, always done myself, so I would not take a stupid scraper to my windscreen.

A plastic ice scraper does not leave any marks.
In 20 years of motoring in Scotland I have never had a problem with a plastic ice scraper.
Warm water just risks breaking your windiw if you get 'warm' slightly wrong.
I actually drive a ford so just press the heated windscreen button and sit in my heated recaro seat as the car defrosts itself quickly on its own.
As for going off on one entirely unrelated to the thread about car washes, how do you know I dont wash my car myself? I do as it happens.
Fill a zip-loc bag with warm water, rub bag over frozen screen and windows, keeps your hands warm too. Clearly though you need to get the heater up and going to stop it refreezing.
Almost the best ultimate in car combo is heated screen and a hvac unit with a 1kw PTC heater, warm air starts coming out inside a minute on mine. I say almost the best as clearly THE best is a fuel burning aux heater on a timer like an Eberspächer or Webasto unit.

Yes, I suspect my car may have some sort of aux heater, as it has a front screen button like the rear screen, but it’s not impressive !
Surely thats just a heated front screen? Fords have had them for a couple of decades.Wife's Qashqai has too, and a heated steering wheel, which having tried for the first time yesterday, is brilliant.

My 12 year old mini has one , one of those things that's only appreciated once in a while.
.
Use mine loads; even on non winter cold mornings it stops the screen misting before the HVAC wakes up..
