I keep quite a lot of stuff in the car boot, and especially in winter things like de-icer roll around all over the place.

I've tried plastic boxes, but they still slide on corners, and bungee cords to hold the toolbox in place, but does anyone have a better solution?

Buy a boot gripper mat from Amazon. It's like a meshy foamy rubbery mat that grips most things. I put my car stuff in a rectangular duffle bag. If it still moves with spirited driving then you need to start lashing things down. The other alternative if your car has tie down points in the boot is a stretchy mesh net.

Get a Velcro backed storage box or pouch, if you've got the furry sides of the boot for it to stick to? A loaded toolbox will be like a cannonball when you crash anyway.

I have a set of these. Its got Velcro on thr base to grip the carpet and a rachet strap fixing point to hold smaller items.
Place the 3 boards whereever you want on the carpet to hold your items.

Can't remember where I bought it but I've a large bag with velcro on the base and side. It would be easy enough to DIY a similar one. For stuff that doesn't fit in it I strategically wedge the bag to provide a barrier to them slipping about.

You need to add more stuff to the boot to stop it rolling around. ..

You can buy Velcro strip that has an adhesive back. I cut a strip a couple of inches long and stick it to whatever needs to be kept in place, like my cans of tyre sealant, tool bags etc. They then just stick to the boot side /carpet.

The only thing you have to watch is that if you stick something to the carpet and keep on taking it on and off, the carpet / boot side goes a bit fuzzy.

Looks like velcro is king.

Some cars I've owned also had curry hooks so I've hung things in a bag on occasion. But having some under the boot carpet storage compartments is probably my favourite for stuff I'll lift in and out regularly.

This is my solution, just wanted something simple I could put in the recess to keep a few bottles, scraper, shopping bags etc. I also wanted to be able to lift the boot floor to access my seat covers and bulkier stuff without it catching. My tyre inflator wedges nicely in the gap too!

Couple of double sided velcro strips on the underside of the organiser keep it in place smile

I'll put frequently used things like ice scraper and maybe a bottle of de-icer spray in the pockets on the back of the driver and passenger seat. Window breaker lives in the driver's side door pocket with shopping bags, microfibre cloths and shopping bags as it would be a bit silly to have it in the boot smile. But the thought of stuff rolling about in freefall on the back seat would scare me.

I've just ordered a set of the same things from eBay. They seem to be shallow enough to not stop my roof folding back which I was and issue with a boot organiser I already have.

I like the idea of these with the straps and flexibility to fit these round various things. Seem pretty clever.

Make a false wooden floor & then adapt to taste... but make it easily removable.
Just screw on a few battens to hold your toolbox etc in place.
Maybe small eyebolts in the corners... help lift in & out or strap things too.
( Just cover it with some rubber matting or carpet).

They are about 20cm high.

I've made a boot liner cover out of an offcut of wool-mix household carpet. It looks nice, being tomato red, and is grippier than the usual short pile nylon one gets in the boot of a car. I keep my bits and pieces in a large shopping bag, which doesn't seem to slide about too much thanks to the carpet.

thumbup That’s what Milkyway Sr does... & he carry’s a load of clutter. Just put all the light loose bits & bobs in a thick carrier bag.
Seems to work OK.
Small metal toolbox... anything plastic / shiny will just slide about.
( or stick on rubber feet).
