Infiniti Q50 - stick or twist?
Discussion
Hello all
Long time lurker but first time poster, so please be gentle!
I am looking for some advice as to whether I should stick with my current car or buy something else. As background, I have had my Infiniti for the last 4 years. It is very rare, being a 2.0t petrol (I believe this is a Mercedes engine). I really like the car, it has a fantastic interior, and it has been completely reliable (famous last words!) during my ownership. It is a 65 plate, but with only 42,000 miles on the clock. It is also the top spec car, so potentially a lot of electronics which could go wrong!
While I would like to keep the car, I do have the following concerns:
a) I am stuck with only one 'official' Nissan garage nearby to service the car - which is expensive. They are quoting £500 for my next service.
b) I am worried about supply of parts. I haven't needed any so far, so am not sure how easy it is to get parts now and in the future
So I guess my questions are:
a) can anyone recommend a garage reasonably local to me (I live in Wokingham) who could service my car; and
b) should I be worried about the parts supply issue? I think that, when I raised this with Infiniti before they left, they said that parts would be available through Nissan for 10 years - which would take me through to 2030 - but I'm not sure if this is true.
I should be grateful for any views on the above.
Thanks

If there's no warranty, then why do you need to use an official main dealer?a) I am stuck with only one 'official' Nissan garage nearby to service the car - which is expensive. They are quoting £500 for my next service.
How similar are the parts to Nissan parts? I would have thought most service items would have been available same day/ next day from ECP etc for years to come yet, and anything specialist can always be ordered from abroad if required.
As for "should you", well, do you want to? If you kept it running for a few more years then it would probably cost less than the depreciation on a new one.

Thanks for the replies so far, much appreciated.
To be honest, I'm ok with continuing to use the Nissan dealer, even if they are pricy. I do a low mileage, which mainly consists of a small number of longish trips, so have been stretching out the service intervals a bit. If I need hard-to-get parts in the future, I hope they will be more inclined to be helpful if I continue to get them to service my car.
It would be good to get some feedback from ZX 10R NIN if possible, as he seems to know quite a lot about Infiniti and their cars.
Thanks again

Dump it and get a Tesla model 3. No need to worry about servicing costs anymore.
- Yawn* Tesla does still have servicing costs. Just because it's a reduced schedule doesn't mean it doesn't have servicing costs. Besides, a model 3 is a sparse environment compared to the Q50, which is a pretty damn comfortable way to spend ~6k a year

a) Stop going to Nissan, find a decent independent - a merc specialist will be reasonably comfortable with the engine/trans. Only go to Nissan when you have an issue that a specialist can't resolve.Long time lurker but first time poster, so please be gentle!

b) I would not be concerned about parts availability. The car is still for sale in Japan as the Nissan Skyline. At worst, you might have to wait slightly longer for Q50 specific parts, but most everything else will be through other suppliers - same as all other manufacturers.
If you have a new car itch, then go for it. If you've not had any issues by now, there's not much point wasting mental energy on, it's a reasonably high tech car, but they were reasonably well built from my experience (bar a couple of issues I had with my 2.2)
A 7-year old Infiniti has already had the biggest hit on depreciation: as I understand it the vast majority of the running gear is a Mercedes or Nissan, so I wouldn't anticipate any real problems obtaining mechanical parts.
Body panels and some trim might be a different issue but that's not unique to Infiniti and, with all respect, it's not as if Infiniti is a niche manufacturer that used small suppliers, it's really a Nissan under another name.
If you're happy with it, and know its history, I'd be tempted to keep it and deal with any major parts-supply issues as and when they arise, if they do. I doubt you'd receive a staggeringly good px-offer for it and, depending whether you'd replace it with new or used, the cost to change might be higher than expected, for what gain? An unknown used car might be a heap of trouble.
I can't see routine servicing items such as basic filters, brake pads etc being a supply issue, discs are probably common to other models, exhaust might be an early casualty re supply but you could always have a stainless system made up.
You quote £500 for a service, but that doesn't really help much without knowing which service it is and what's involved.

Thanks all for your input.
I've decided to keep my car for the time being. I went on a long journey yesterday in horrible weather, and it reminded me of why I really like this car. I have had both a Jag X350 and X351 in the past, and I would say the interior of my car, especially in the cream leather, is the best I have ever been in.
It's a pity that Infiniti pulled out of most of its markets in 2020. The dealership experience was excellent and the cars are really good. Their marketing strategy, on the other hand.....
If he sees this thread, I would value input from ZX10 R NIN.....
Thanks all

I'm guessing youu either have a Q50/Q30 Sport/in Touch/Tech, in which case servicing wise a decent Independent will be more than capable of looking after it.Long time lurker but first time poster, so please be gentle!

The whole drivetrain is Mercedes (in the case of the Q30 the whole car is a Mercedes A Class) on the Q50 electrics wise they don't seem to have any inherent issues.
Saab/MG has ceased to exist for a long time & you can still get parts for them, I'd say your over thinking it. Also although Infiniti stopped in the UK they're still sold in other larger markets as either Infiniti or Nissan so there really isn't an issue.

Not good advice. The OP then has the associated problems with a EV plus the well documented quality issues with a Tesla..
Thanks ever so much everybody for your replies, much appreciated. ZX10, yes, it is an Infiniti Q50 and you are right, I have been overthinking this. I think my car's a keeper. The nearest equivalent car would be something like a BMW 3 or Lexus IS. To swap over to a car of similar age and mileage would cost me between £5 and £10k, for cars which are, in my view, not as nice and potentially to pick up other people's hidden problems.
It's a no-brainer, stop thinking about it and keep my car!
