Hi all,

I recently bought a car from a reputable main dealer. I have receipts, etc.

The purchase was on the 20/12/22, so today is 15days since I've purchased it. I've yet to receive a new log book, and the DVLA website is saying the 'Date of last V5C (logbook) issued July 2018'. Shouldn't it change almost instantly if the ownership was changed online by the dealership?

I've spoken to the dealer who has said they've put everything through. I've fully taxed the car too.

Could it just be a case of delayed post because of Royal Mail strikes and bank holidays meaning DVLA staff aren't working.. or has something fallen through the cracks?

No it's the Commies at DVLA. I've been waiting for a V5c since 24th November when the car I bought was taxed by the main dealer. The delay being it was a Motability car and the taxation class need to change from Disabled to Diesel Car. They quoted me six weeks when I rang them.

Bloody hell. Really stuck on what to do then. I wasn't provided (didn't ask either!) with the green new owner slip.

Shall I go back to the dealership and ask for this?

Very similar - bought a car on 27/12/22, the V5 arrived yesterday!

All changes done online, which seems the key to receiving paperwork quickly.

Yep, the delay happens when a human gets involved, or needs to get involved.

Took me six months and a number of phone calls to get my last one.

So it seems there's probably an issue. Any advice on what I should do next? I guess I'll contact the dealer again to double-check they've sent it off and request the green slip.

If a slip has been sent off I wouldn’t expect the change to happen that quickly. If it’s been done online (you should have received an email confirmation) then that’s when I’ve received V5’s within days, rather than weeks.

How comes? Did the dealer not send in the new details? Or issue DVLA-side?

Do you know if your dealership changed details online or via post?

If it was a 'reputable' dealer, how come you weren't provide with the new keeper slip from the V5c? Was it actually available?

Seems like it was lost to me. There has been no notification of a change of keeper received if they haven't issued a new one as indicated by the DVLA database. If a new V5c has had to be applied for first, it could be a long wait. rolleyes How was the VED purchased? If it was, then it will still be in the name of the previous keeper. When the change of keeper occurs, they'll get a refund and it will need to be bought again!

It was a main dealer with decent reviews - agree though, they should've provided me the green slip, and I (an idiot) should've asked when it wasn't provided.

As I paid for tax online on their computer - I assumed that was the process.

I'm not sure if the 'date V5C last produced' on the DVLA database is immediately after the dealer notifies, as I've checked with a few friends who have bought cars recently, and the date is closer to the time they actually received their v5c, rather than bought the car.

If you bought the tax online, you used the document code on the new slip, presumably? It's actually the same as the one on the front but with an extra digit at the front, so you must have seen it? I don't understand why dealers or anybody for that matter, bothers to post off the old document when it's a 2 minute job online.

Otherwise, you've bought VED in the name of the previous keeper, if you used the code on the front of the V5c!

You're right about the 'date issued' it's when the computer spews out another V5c, not when they were notified, but it should be within only a few days if done online.

I'm not sure what code was used - it was already setup in the system waiting for me. Really think something dodgy might have been going on now, as the car was shown as untaxed before I bought.

I bought a car back in November. I had the V5 about a week later, and then applied for a change of plate and I had the retention certificate, and that took about another week. No problems, all went well.

I bought a car at the end of August, finally got the V5 just before Christmas.

Seller was planning on doing the transfer online when I left, presumably didn't. I sent in the V62 in mid-October.

Post. No green slip either but postal strike plus DVLA delays and holding to speak to an operative for over 40 minutes on 2 separate occasions.

Check the dealer did actually do it properly - mine didn’t as they had ‘forgotten to click the final button’ or some nonsense!
