All this talk about EV and clean air zones. Obviously we don't need choice. The only consideration is air quality so how about the government just choose our cars?

Would you be for this proposal?

What an utterly daft question.

If it was about our poorly little lungs, they'd ban smoking. If it was about our health, they'd ban alcohol and they'd ban fast food and provide free gyms for us all to live a lovely healthy life.

It's not about air quality it's about money.

Utterly bizarre post.

Only if you fancy a timeshare in one of these. 90 mile range and 20mph would be plenty for most people...

If you could monetise creating basically the same content over and over OP you would be able to afford to buy and run an interesting non compliant classic!

Yea please and clothes too.

Oh no, what I meant to say was:

We’ve got hundreds of examples where we are free to excercise our personal choice within limits set by society, in the form of the government, which we all elect.

Those limits are often to protect innocent or ignorant people from unscrupulous ones, or to protect ignorant people from themselves.

I value being able to choose, own, and use a car. But I’m glad it has to pass an MOT, be insured, be driven by someone qualified, and, yes, not poison people beyond a certain level.

I think you need to go past your first thought on this issue and maybe as far as the fourth or fifth.

I've thought that there should be something similar to what they have in Japan with the kei car system. Would make sense in crowded cities and we would get some fantastic small cars.

Agreed, and I would be quite happy to drive around in one if everybody else had one too.

Trouble is, a large percentage of people are driving around in 2 tonne SUVs and bullying other drivers. I guess it is effectively an arms race, other drivers have them so they feel they need one too to be "safe"

I don't know how we got to such a crazy situation where the only cars that will eventually be allowed in London will be 2+ Tonne EV SUVs.

I agree. There is far more to it than just money. I tend to be mindful of these things on here as you can get pounced on and I can't be ar$ed with that but I agree.
