In the Shell Go app you can pay at pump etc... But it has an option to offset the carbon emissions from the last fill up.

Obviously their blurb sounds great, but it smells of green washing? I assume it'd be better to donate to a dedicated cause than via Shell?

I have noticed that but not really taken much notice of it tbh.

However, i am fascinated to know what 'green washing' means!

Green washing machine is a corporate tactic to appear like they're being good and kind and saving the planet, whilst in reality just masking their pollution.

For example, a company could reduce their energy consumption, or just pay to offset their emissions and make a song and dance about it. The former being correct, and the later green washing.

A company I do some work for, for example, could have easily afforded to offset their emissions and declared being carbon neutral. They decided to do it properly and change to a 100% renewable electricity supplier, change all lighting to LED (across 23 sites it's expensive!) and insulate their offices... So a lot more cost and effort, but actually a better result smile
