Hi. Have a diesel chevvy cruz about to be written off by insurance after some donk did a hit and run wiping off my back bumper and cracking a back light. Really like the car; not had it long; in two minds whether to keep it and repair it or take the full sum.
Does anyone know hwo much it is likely to put the insurance up once officially written off? I'm an almost 40 year old female if that makes any difference. Got offered a decent price either way so resale value isn't really an issue.
Thank you :-)

I might be wrong but you dont declare it. However in case of a claim dont expect the same payout.

Correct. And to answer the question in the thread title... £0.00

Thanks for the replies. Won't it come up as cat once registered with the DVLA as such if we go that route and the insurers company assess it as that?

It's never been a question I've had to answer on a declaration form for insurance. I've had 3 (4?) Cat C/D cars over the years and it makes absolutely no difference to the premium.

I would expect a reduction in value, however, if one was ever written off.

yes That's my experience too. I've never been asked, but it's bound to be taken into consideration when valuing the vehicle in the case of a total loss.

Itll make no difference to ins premiums whether its a cat n or s.
The damage sounds minimal.
A few used parts, some paint and someone to fit them for you plus a payout out from your ins company minus the salvage (full value minus a few quid as youre keeping the car) and it'll be worthwhile especially as you like your car..

See I have never understood this...

In all my life, getting quotes online or on the phone, I have never seen the option of "is your cat CAT registered" or been asked. I have also insured a CAT D car with no issue or change in price.

However, there are waves of people who are adamant that they are "impossible to insure/have to pay a premium".

I just can't see any reasoning why they would think this.

The only time I've ever been asked is on an agreed value policy.
